MG Windsor EV Crosses 50,000 Sales in India in One Year: Why Buyers Are Choosing It

MG Windsor EV Crosses 50,000 Sales in India in Just Over a Year

The MG Windsor EV has crossed the 50,000 sales mark in India a little over one year after its launch. JSW MG Motor India confirmed the milestone and noted that the Windsor EV has become one of the fastest selling passenger electric vehicles in the country. Since its launch in October 2024, the model has averaged around five units sold every hour and received more than 15,000 bookings on its first day.

Driving Range, Power and Features

The Windsor EV offers a certified range of up to 449 km on a full charge. This figure applies to the 52.9 kWh battery used in the Pro versions. The motor produces 136 PS and 200 Nm of torque, which supports daily city use and longer commutes.

Inside the cabin, the Windsor EV features a 15.6 inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The seats can recline up to 135 degrees to improve comfort on longer drives. The higher Essence Pro variant adds Level 2 ADAS, vehicle to vehicle charging and vehicle to load power support.

Pricing and Battery as a Service Model

MG offers the Windsor EV through two ownership options.

  • BaaS (Battery as a Service): The Windsor Pro starts at Rs 13.09 lakh with a battery usage fee of Rs 4.5 per kilometre.

  • Standard purchase: The fully owned version starts at Rs 18.09 lakh ex showroom.

MG has also introduced the Windsor Inspire limited edition at a starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh under the BaaS model.

Official Statement

Anurag Mehrotra, Managing Director of JSW MG Motor India, said that reaching the 50,000 sales milestone shows strong customer confidence and reflects growing interest in electric vehicles in India.

Author's Analysis: Why the Windsor EV Works in India

The quick rise of the Windsor EV highlights what Indian buyers value in an electric vehicle. A usable 449 km range reduces range anxiety, while features like the large touchscreen and Level 2 ADAS add convenience and safety. The BaaS model has also helped the Windsor reach a wider audience by lowering the initial cost. MG’s two track pricing strategy and the focus on range, comfort and flexibility have played a major role in the Windsor EV’s early success.
