Mahindra XEV 9S 7-Seater Electric SUV Launched in India at Rs 19.95 Lakh

Mahindra has launched the new XEV 9S in India, marking its entry into the three-row electric SUV market. The price starts at Rs 19.95 lakh (ex showroom), making it one of the most affordable 7-seater EVs in the country. The XUV.e9, earlier shown as the XEV 9S in pre-launch teasers, is built for families that want space, range and modern tech in one package. Bookings will open on January 14, 2026, and deliveries are set to begin on January 23. Test drives will start from January 5.

The XEV 9S sits on Mahindra’s INGLO skateboard platform, which uses a flat floor layout to maximise space. Mahindra claims the SUV delivers more than 4,000 litres of usable volume across the first two rows. The luggage area offers a 527 litre boot, and there is also a 150 litre frunk for extra storage. Even with its large size, the SUV keeps city driving friendly with a 10 metre turning circle and 205 mm ground clearance.

Mahindra offers the XEV 9S in six variants under three packs. The top Pack Three Above variant with the 79 kWh battery costs Rs 29.45 lakh.

Powertrain and Performance

The XEV 9Soffers three battery options: 59 kWh, 70 kWh and 79 kWh. The electric motor develops up to 210 kW and 380 Nm, making it the quickest 7-seater EV currently sold in India. Mahindra claims a 0 to 100 km per hour time of about 7 seconds and a top speed of 202 km per hour. The real world range is expected to touch 500 kilometres. The SUV supports DC fast charging and can go from 20 percent to 80 percent in roughly 20 minutes under ideal conditions.

Key Specifications

  • Acceleration: 0 to 100 km per hour in about 7 seconds

Interior Technology and Safety

Inside, Mahindra gives the XEV 9S a lounge like feel. The highlight is the triple screen dashboard that stretches from one end to the other. It uses Qualcomm’s latest chipset and supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A 16 speaker Harman Kardon system with Dolby Atmos is standard on higher variants. Top trims also get an AR head up display, AutoPark Assist and Mahindra’s MAIA AI interface.

Safety equipment includes up to seven airbags, including a driver knee airbag, and a Level 2 Plus ADAS suite. The system uses several radars and cameras to assist in braking, lane keeping and emergency response. Blind view monitoring, brake by wire tech and intelligent emergency braking add to the list. The SUV also features Secure360 Pro, which offers live vehicle surveillance on premium variants. Mahindra claims the running cost comes to less than Rs 1.2 per kilometre.

Author's Note

The price alone places it far ahead of electric rivals that cannot offer three rows at this level. The 500 km range and the strong 210 kW motor give the XEV 9S a clear advantage for long distance users. The INGLO platform is central to this strategy, because it supports a flat floor that frees up generous cabin room. Families looking for space, comfort and modern tech will see this as a strong upgrade over traditional petrol or diesel SUVs. The triple screen dashboard and Level 2 Plus ADAS further help Mahindra position the XUV.e9 as a premium electric SUV without pushing the cost too high. With features, performance and pricing all aligned, Mahindra has created a serious contender that will challenge upcoming EVs from Tata, Hyundai and Maruti in the three row segment.
