Introduction 

Suzuki is preparing to bring back the Swift Sport, its well-known hot hatchback. The company plans to unveil the next-generation Swift Sport by the end of 2026. The performance hatchback has been missing from global showrooms for almost two years, and the upcoming model will be based on the fourth-generation Swift, which is already sold in markets including India. The new model will feature several upgrades in design, performance, and technology compared to the earlier Swift Sport.

Why The Launch Was Delayed

Suzuki originally planned to introduce the new Swift Sport earlier. However, the development process has taken longer than expected, which pushed the timeline further. Because of this delay, the company is now targeting a global reveal by the end of 2026.

Despite the delay, the next-generation model is expected to bring noticeable improvements in performance and driving dynamics.

Turbo Petrol Engine With Mild Hybrid System

The new Swift Sport is expected to use a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine combined with 48-volt mild hybrid technology. It will produce around 148 horsepower and 240 Nm of peak torque.

For comparison, the previous Swift Sport generated 138 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque from a similar 1.4-litre turbocharged engine. The new model will therefore offer slightly more power and better efficiency.

With this setup, the next-generation Swift Sport could accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under eight seconds, while the top speed is expected to be around 210 km/h.

Sportier Design And Wider Stance

The upcoming Swift Sport will feature a wider track and increased body width compared to the regular Swift hatchback. This change will give the car a lower and more aggressive stance on the road.

Suzuki will also add several sporty styling elements that will help the Swift Sport stand out from the standard Swift. These upgrades are expected to include a larger front grille, front-lip spoiler, side skirts, 17-inch alloy wheels, dual exhaust pipes, and a rear diffuser. Together, these design updates will give the car a more performance-focused appearance.

Manual And Automatic Transmission Options

Suzuki is expected to offer the new Swift Sport with two transmission options. Buyers will likely be able to choose between a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic transmission depending on their driving preference.

Possible All-Wheel Drive Option

Traditionally, the Swift Sport has always been a front-wheel-drive car to keep weight low and maintain sharp handling. However, reports suggest that Suzuki may offer an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option with the next-generation model.

If introduced, the AWD system will help improve traction and stability, especially while driving in difficult road or weather conditions.

Inside the cabin, the next-generation Swift Sport will likely receive several sporty upgrades. These may include semi-bucket seats, metallic-finish pedals, and exclusive interior trim and upholstery.

Will Swift Sport Come To India?

Maruti Suzuki has never officially sold the Swift Sport in India, and the next-generation model is also unlikely to be launched in the Indian market.

One reason is the limited demand for high-performance hatchbacks in India. Another challenge is that Maruti Suzuki does not locally manufacture the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which would make the car expensive if imported.

Expected Price In Japan

In Japan, the next-generation Swift Sport is expected to launch with a price between 2.3 million yen and 2.5 million yen, which roughly converts to ₹13.3 lakh to ₹14.5 lakh. This estimated pricing applies to the Japanese market and may vary in other countries.

The return of the Swift Sport shows Suzuki’s continued focus on performance hatchbacks. The next-generation model is expected to offer more power, better handling, and a sportier design than before.
