Renault Plans New Models and Global Exports From India Under futuREady Strategy

Renault Plans Four New Cars in India, Chennai Plant to Become Major Global Export Hub

Introduction

Renault Group has announced a new strategy called futuREady, and India will play a much bigger role in the company’s global plans. The French automaker wants to turn India into a major production, development, and export hub.

The company’s Chennai manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu will be central hub to this strategy. Renault plans to design and build four new models in India before 2030. These will come with different powertrain options, including petrol, hybrid, and fully electric systems.

Chennai Plant to Become a Global Hub

Renault’s Chennai plant has been operating since 2010 and has already produced more than 2.8 million vehicles. Out of these, around 1.2 million vehicles have been exported to over 100 international markets. The factory can produce about four lakh vehicles every year, which gives Renault strong capacity to support future global exports.

Because of its location, experience, and production scale, the Chennai facility is gradually becoming one of Renault’s key global manufacturing hubs.

Four New Renault Models Planned for India

Renault has confirmed that four new vehicles will be designed and produced in India before 2030. These models will include multiple powertrain options to meet different market needs.

The lineup will include:

  •  (ICE): Traditional petrol-powered vehicles

  • Hybrid Powertrains: Petrol engine combined with an electric motor

  • Fully Electric Vehicles (EVs): Powered completely by electricity

The new-generation Renault Duster, which the company revealed earlier this year, will play an crucial role in this plan. Renault is also preparing a 7-seater version of the Duster and an affordable electric vehicle for the Indian market. These new models aim to expand Renault’s presence and give customers more choices.

Renault Bridger Concept Points to Future SUV

One of the first signs of this new strategy is the Renault Bridger Concept, a compact B-segment SUV, previews a future production model that could arrive around late 2027. Renault plans to manufacture the Bridger in India before introducing it to other global markets.

The SUV will share its platform with the Duster, which allows Renault to use many locally produced parts. Local production helps reduce manufacturing costs and improves supply efficiency.

Regional Production Hubs

Renault will rely on several regional manufacturing hubs to support its global operations.

  • Latin America: Production for the Americas region

  • South Korea: Production for Asia-Pacific markets

  • India: Production for India and multiple export markets

Among these locations, India is expected to become one of Renault’s most strategic markets. The country offers a strong supplier network, competitive production costs, and a large and fast-growing car market.

Renault’s Global Electrification Plan

The futuREady roadmap also highlights Renault’s wider global strategy. The company plans to launch more than two dozen new vehicles in the coming years.

Europe Strategy

  • Renault plans to make 100% of its lineup electrified by 2030

  • The transition will rely on E-Tech hybrid and electric technologies

International Markets Strategy

  • In markets where charging infrastructure is still growing, Renault will gradually increase electrified vehicles

  • By the end of the decade, the company wants about 50% of its sales to come from hybrid or electric models

Renault’s Global Sales Targets

By the end of this decade, Renault aims to achieve two major goals:

  • Global sales target: More than 2 million vehicles per year

  • Market distribution: About 50% of total sales coming from markets outside Europe

This confirms Renault is increasing its focus on emerging markets like India while expanding its global electric and hybrid vehicle lineup.
