2026 Volkswagen Taigun Facelift Teased Ahead of April 9 Launch – What’s New?
2026 Volkswagen Taigun Facelift Launch on April 9, 2026: What to Expect
Volkswagen India is set to launch the updated Taigun SUV on April 9, 2026. This update comes shortly after the facelifted Skoda Kushaq, and as expected, the Taigun will continue with its existing turbo petrol engine lineup while bringing in a few important changes.
Engine Options with a Key Gearbox Update
The SUV will continue with the familiar 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo petrol engines. The smaller 1.0-litre unit produces 115 hp and 178 Nm, while the more powerful 1.5-litre engine delivers 150 hp and 250 Nm.
The major update is the new 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox for the 1.0-litre engine. This will replace the current 6-speed automatic unit. The 1.5-litre engine is expected to carry forward with its existing transmission options.
Refreshed Exterior Styling
On the outside, the facelifted Taigun is expected to get a more modern design. Spy images suggest a revised front with slimmer LED headlamps connected by a light bar, along with an illuminated Volkswagen logo.
Other updates will likely include changes to the grille, redesigned bumpers, and updated tail lamp detailing, giving the SUV a fresher and more premium appearance.
Interior Updates and Feature Additions
Inside the cabin, Volkswagen is expected to introduce new upholstery and improved material quality. The feature list will also be upgraded, with a larger 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster replacing the current 8-inch unit.
The 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system will continue, now offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Features like ventilated and electrically adjustable front seats are likely, along with a panoramic sunroof for higher variants. A single-pane sunroof could become standard across the range, similar to the updated Kushaq.
Volkswagen may also improve the air conditioning system by using a variable-geometry compressor, which works better in hot weather conditions. There is also a possibility of a rear seat massage function being introduced.
Platform, Space and Safety
The Taigun facelift will continue to be based on the MQB A0 IN platform. It is also expected to offer slightly better boot space and more safety features as standard. Prices could see a small increase compared to the current model.
Competition
Once launched, the updated Taigun will compete with models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Grand Vitara, and MG Astor.
