TVS Apache RTX All Top & Segment First Features Explained
TVS Apache RTX: All Features and Segment-First Tech Explained
TVS Motor Company launched its first adventure motorcycle, the Apache RTX, in October 2025 at a price of Rs 1.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This bike comes with several segment-first features that were previously only available on expensive international motorcycles. Powered by a brand new 299.1cc liquid-cooled engine producing 36PS at 9000rpm and 28.5Nm at 7000rpm, the RTX competes with KTM 250 Adventure (Rs 2.40 lakh) and Yezdi Adventure (Rs 1.98 lakh). What’s special is not just the competitive pricing but the amount of technology packed into this touring-focused adventure bike. From advanced rider aids to smart connectivity features, the Apache RTX aims to redefine what riders can expect in the sub-Rs 2.5 lakh segment. Let’s break down each feature in simple terms.
1. 5-inch TFT Console
The RTX has a full-color 5-inch TFT display, same as the one on Apache RTR 310 and RR 310. This bright screen shows speed, RPM, fuel level, gear position and distance to empty. Top and BTO variants get full map mirroring, which shows Google Maps navigation directly on the screen – you don’t need to mount your phone separately.
TVS SmartXonnect Bluetooth connectivity gives phone call alerts, SMS notifications, music controls and ride analytics. It also stores digital documents like insurance and RC papers. For adventure enthusiasts, it has GoPro camera controls and tracks riding telemetry like top speed and 0-60kmph times. The display adjusts brightness based on ambient light for easy readability in bright sunlight or dark nights.
2. Riding Modes, ABS and Traction Control
The Apache RTX has four riding modes: Urban, Rain, Tour and Rally. Each mode adjusts throttle response, traction control sensitivity and ABS intervention. Urban mode has balanced settings for city riding. Rain mode has maximum ABS intervention and reduced power for wet conditions. Tour mode optimizes fuel efficiency for highway cruising. Rally mode unleashes full power with minimal electronic interference for spirited riding. Dual channel ABS has three modes - Urban, Rain and Rally. You can completely disable rear ABS for off-road riding where controlled rear wheel slides help in maintaining momentum on loose surfaces. According to TVS, this switchable ABS setup makes the bike versatile across different terrains.
Traction control monitors rear wheel speed and prevents spinning during aggressive acceleration on slippery roads. It has two modes: Urban (more intervention) and Rally (less interference). This feature helps new riders build confidence on unpredictable road surfaces common in India.
Technical Specs: 320mm front disc with radial caliper, 240mm rear disc, dual channel ABS, ride-by-wire throttle.
3. Cruise Control, Bi-Directional Quickshifter and Wheelie Control
Cruise Control maintains a set speed on highways without holding the throttle. Just activate it via the handlebar controls and the bike will keep your chosen speed automatically. Touch the brake, clutch or throttle to instantly turn it off. This reduces wrist fatigue on long tours - a big plus over competitors like the KTM 250 Adventure that don’t have this feature.
Bi-Directional Quickshifter allows clutch less shifting - up and down. During upshifts it cuts the ignition for smooth engagement. During downshifts it auto-blips the throttle to match engine speed with the lower gear. This means faster acceleration and smoother gear transitions than conventional shifting.
Wheelie Control detects front wheel lift through lean angle sensors and reduces power to bring it back down safely. It allows small lifts but prevents uncontrolled wheelies that waste traction and can be dangerous.
4. TPMS & Adaptive LED Headlights
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) - available on the BTO variant - shows real time tire pressure for both wheels on the TFT screen. It alerts you if pressure drops below safe levels to prevent punctures and maintain optimal fuel efficiency. This is a first in the segment since most riders check tire pressure infrequently.
Adaptive LED Headlights adjusts brightness based on speed. As you accelerate the headlight intensity increases for better visibility. The Top and BTO variants have a welcome light sequence when you unlock the bike. All variants have full LED lighting including DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) for better visibility to other vehicles.
5. Adjustable Suspension Setup & Levers
The BTO variant has 41mm WP upside-down forks with rebound and compression damping adjustability. The rear WP monoshock has preload adjustability. Both ends have 180mm of travel - enough for touring but less than the KTM 250 Adventure’s suspension travel designed for harder off-roading.
You can adjust the suspension stiffness for solo riding, two-up riding with passenger or with luggage. Softer settings are for smooth highways, stiffer settings prevent bottoming out on rough roads.
Adjustable levers for brake and clutch for different hand sizes. This small detail is a big comfort on long rides and allows multiple riders to customize the bike to their preference quickly.
Specifications: 180kg kerb weight, 835mm seat height, 200mm ground clearance, 12.5L fuel tank.
Comparison with Competitors
vs KTM 250 Adventure: The RTX is Rs 41,000 cheaper (BTO variant), has 5PS more power and cruise control and TPMS which is not available on the KTM. But the KTM has 220mm ground clearance, 14.5L fuel tank and 3kg less weight.
vs Yezdi Adventure: Almost same price (Rs 1.98 lakh vs Rs 1.99 lakh), but the RTX has 6.4PS more power and better electronics. The Yezdi has a bigger 334cc engine but produces only 29.6PS.
The TVS Apache RTX is a value for money at Rs 1.99-2.34 lakh. It has more power and features than the KTM 250 Adventure and is way cheaper. The comprehensive electronics, comfortable ergonomics and touring features make it perfect for Indian highways and occasional dirt roads. Not designed for hardcore off roading like bikes with 21 inch front wheel, it excels at what it’s meant to do: comfortable long distance touring with adventure styling. For riders looking for a feature packed, powerful adventure tourer without paying premium prices, the Apache RTX is a good option with TVS’s wide service network across India.
