India’s Best-Selling Cars in October 2025: Nexon Beats Dzire and Creta
Nexon Leads October 2025 Sales; Dzire, Creta Stay Hot
Tata Nexon has grabbed the top spot in India's passenger vehicle sales chart for October 2025, marking its second consecutive month as the country's best-selling car. The compact SUV recorded dispatches of 22,083 units during the month, which shows a massive jump of nearly 50 percent compared to last year's October figures. This performance puts Nexon ahead of popular models from Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai, signaling a clear shift in what Indian buyers want right now. The success comes from Nexon's diverse engine lineup that includes petrol, diesel, CNG and electric variants, giving customers multiple choices under one nameplate. Safety ratings and recent updates have also played a role in keeping demand strong across urban and semi-urban markets.
Maruti Suzuki Dzire secured second place with 20,791 units sold in October 2025. The compact sedan has remained a favorite among private buyers and taxi operators for years, and this month was no different. Its affordable pricing, reliable fuel economy and spacious cabin continue to attract families who need a practical daily driver. Dzire's consistent performance shows that sedans still have a place in the Indian market despite the SUV boom.
Coming in third was another Maruti model, the Ertiga MPV, which registered 20,087 units. This seven-seater has built a solid reputation as a versatile people mover that works well for both families and commercial fleet operators. The availability of a CNG option makes it even more appealing when fuel prices remain a concern for most buyers. Ertiga's numbers prove that practical, spacious vehicles will always find takers in India.
Maruti Suzuki WagonR took fourth position with 18,970 units dispatched during October 2025. This tall-boy hatchback has been around for decades and continues to deliver dependable sales thanks to its roomy interior, easy maintenance and strong resale value. WagonR appeals to first-time car buyers and those who need a simple, no-fuss vehicle for city commutes.
Hyundai Creta maintained its dominance in the mid-size SUV segment by selling 18,381 units in October. The Korean SUV has set benchmarks in design, features and comfort over the years, and the latest generation continues that trend. Creta faces competition from several rivals but manages to stay ahead through its premium positioning and strong brand image. The model attracts buyers who want more space and features than compact SUVs offer.
Mahindra Scorpio recorded 17,880 units in October 2025, with both Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic contributing to the total. These rugged SUVs appeal to buyers who prioritize off-road capability, commanding road presence and traditional body-on-frame construction. Scorpio's loyal customer base in semi-urban and rural areas keeps it firmly placed in the top ten.
Maruti Suzuki placed three more models in the top ten. Fronx sold 17,003 units, Baleno registered 16,873 units, and Swift wrapped up the list with 15,542 units. These models cater to younger buyers who want style and modern features at reasonable prices. Maruti's ability to put six cars in the top ten shows its continued grip on the Indian market.
Tata Punch secured ninth place with 16,810 units. This micro-SUV has carved out its own space by offering SUV styling and capabilities at hatchback prices. Like Nexon, Punch comes with petrol, CNG and electric options, making it versatile for different buyer needs. Its 5-star safety rating adds to the appeal.
October 2025 sales data reveals that compact and mid-size SUVs have become mainstream choices rather than niche products. The top ten list features five SUVs, which was unthinkable just a few years ago when hatchbacks and sedans dominated. Tata Motors has managed to place two SUVs in the top ten, showing its product strategy is working well. Maruti Suzuki's dominance remains unchallenged with six models, but the company will need to strengthen its SUV portfolio to counter rivals. The strong showing by models with CNG options indicates that running costs still matter a lot to Indian buyers. Electric variants of Nexon and Punch are also contributing to overall numbers, suggesting gradual EV adoption. With multiple new launches planned in coming months, competition will get tougher. Buyers will benefit from more choices, better features and competitive pricing as brands fight for market share.
