Kia is preparing to introduce the next-generation Seltos, and a camouflaged test unit has now been seen on Indian roads. The new model will make its world debut on December 10, and the India launch is expected in the first half of 2026. Early sightings show a much bolder SUV with a stronger stance, a more upright front end and new design elements that move it closer to larger mid-size models. Kia appears focused on improving cabin space, technology and premium features while keeping the existing engines, which are already popular among Indian buyers. With the compact SUV segment becoming more competitive, Kia is aiming to push the Seltos ahead with more room, a larger road presence and an updated feature list.

Bigger Size Means More Space

The most noticeable change in the next-gen Seltos is its size. The upcoming model is expected to be about 100 mm longer than the current SUV, which measures 4,365 mm. This difference is visible in the longer wheelbase and stretched rear overhang on the test mule. A longer body will allow Kia to offer more rear legroom, improved knee room and a larger boot than the current 433 litre setup. The exterior design also looks more upright. The front gets a boxier shape, a new grille and square headlamps. Vertical DRLs and a larger skid plate increase the SUV’s tough appeal. The rear design features vertical tail lamps inspired by the Kia EV5, connected by a slim light bar extending across the tailgate.

High-Tech Interior and Features

The interior of the new Seltos will be completely redesigned. Kia has reworked the dashboard, centre console, steering wheel and door panels to create a more modern space for tech-focused users. The upcoming model is expected to offer several premium features. These include a powered tailgate and the new Trinity Panoramic Display, which uses three screens: a 12.3 inch instrument cluster, a 5 inch HVAC touchscreen and a 12.3 inch infotainment system. Other expected features include a dual wireless charger, electrically adjustable and ventilated front seats and customisable ambient lighting. These upgrades will help the Seltos move closer to the premium end of the compact SUV segment.

Engine Options Remain the Same

Kia is likely to continue with the current set of engines for the new Seltos. Buyers can expect the same 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.5 litre turbo petrol and a 1.5 litre turbo diesel. The standard gearbox will likely remain a 6 speed manual. Automatic options will include a CVT for the naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 7 speed DCT for the turbo petrol and a 6 speed automatic for the diesel. These engines have already proven themselves in terms of performance and efficiency, so carrying them forward allows Kia to focus on design and feature upgrades.

Seltos Grows to Dominate the Segment

Kia’s decision to increase the Seltos’s length by about 100 mm shows a clear plan to meet customer demand for more cabin space and a larger boot. At an expected length of around 4,465 mm, the next-gen Seltos will be one of the longest SUVs in its class, giving it an edge over rivals such as the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Grand Vitara. The stretched wheelbase and rear overhang offer noticeable gains in rear seat comfort and luggage capacity, which are key factors for family buyers. The introduction of the Trinity Panoramic Display also brings a premium touch that is rare in this segment. By making the SUV larger and more feature rich while keeping reliable engines, Kia is positioning the new Seltos as a stronger value package. This strategy aims to attract buyers who want a more spacious SUV without moving to a higher price bracket.
