Electric Two-Wheeler Sales India Jan 2026: TVS Leads, Ola Sales Drop

India's EV two-wheeler sales hit 1.22 lakh units in Jan 2026. TVS and Bajaj dominate the market while Ola Electric sees a sharp decline in sales.

The Indian electric two-wheeler market started the new year with a strong performance. In January 2026, the industry sold 1,22,812 units, showing a steady growth compared to both last year and last month. While most major brands saw their numbers go up, one former leader continued to struggle.

TVS and Bajaj Lead the Way

TVS Motor Company kept its spot at the top of the charts. The brand sold 34,558 electric scooters last month, which is a big jump from the 24,028 units it sold in January 2025. A lot of this success comes from their new Orbiter e-scooter, which has quickly become a favorite among buyers.

Bajaj Auto held onto second place with 25,598 units sold. This is a solid increase from the 21,470 units they retailed during the same time last year. The launch of the Chetak C25 has helped Bajaj strengthen its position in the market, proving that legacy brands are now dominating the electric space.

Ather and Vida Show Strong Growth

Ather Energy stayed in third place, selling 21,999 units in January 2026. The Bengaluru-based startup continues to grow steadily, with a nearly 68% increase compared to last year. They have managed to keep a loyal customer base even as bigger companies enter the market.

Hero MotoCorp’s electric brand, Vida, saw the most dramatic growth. They sold 13,302 units last month, compared to just 1,626 units in January 2025. This massive leap shows that more people are now trusting the Vida brand for their daily commutes.

Ola Electric Continues to Slide

In a surprising turn, Ola Electric was the only major brand to report a drop in sales. Once the market leader, Ola sold only 7,516 units in January 2026. This is a huge fall from the 24,413 units they sold in January 2025. The brand is facing tough competition from both old-school manufacturers and new startups.

Other brands like Greaves (Ampere), River EV, and BGauss also saw positive numbers, filling out the rest of the top ten list. E-Sprinto also made a mark with a massive growth rate, jumping from just 125 units last year to over 2,000 units this month.

Gaadijournal's Analysis:

The January 2026 sales data reveals a major shift in the Indian EV market. For a long time, startups like Ola Electric were the main players. Now, legacy brands like TVS and Bajaj are taking over. These older companies have massive service networks and years of trust, which makes buyers feel safer. They are also launching better-designed products that fit the needs of regular Indian families. This trend suggests that the "honeymoon phase" for EV startups might be over, and they now have to work much harder to compete with the giants of the industry.

Author's Comment:

The strong growth in January 2026 shows that the Indian electric two-wheeler market is maturing. People are no longer just buying EVs because they are new; they are buying them because they are practical. The success of models like the TVS Orbiter and Bajaj Chetak C25 proves that quality and reliability are now the top priorities for buyers. While Ola’s decline is a warning to others, the overall growth of the industry is a great sign. We expect 2026 to be a record-breaking year for electric mobility in India.
