Toyota Rumion E MT Variant Launched: Price, Features and What Is Missing

Toyota Rumion E MT Variant Launched

Toyota Rumion gets a new E MT entry variant in India and new trim reduces the MPV starting price to Rs 9.56 lakh.

Toyota has introduced a new entry level E MT variant for the Rumion MPV in India and it brings the starting price of the Rumion down to Rs 9.56 lakh ex showroom. This move makes the seven seat MPV almost Rs 95,000 cheaper than before which means the Rumion now becomes more accessible for family buyers. Earlier the S MT was the most affordable version in the lineup. With the launch of the E trim the Rumion range now begins at a lower price point. The MPV is now available in four variants which are E, S, G and V. Toyota has kept the price of other variants unchanged. The range still goes up to Rs 13.86 lakh ex showroom for the top model.

What Changes in the New Rumion E MT Variant

Since the E trim is the base version it comes with a simpler design and fewer convenience features compared with higher trims. The styling remains largely similar which means the MPV still gets the large front grille with chrome surrounds and LED tail lamps. The car rides on 15 inch steel wheels with silver wheel covers.

However there are a few visible changes. Body coloured door handles are not offered in this variant where as the outside mirrors are also finished in black. The turn indicators are placed on the front fenders instead of the LED strip style indicators on the mirrors seen in higher variants.

Toyota continues to offer the same five exterior colour options which include Spunky Blue, Rustic Brown, Enticing Silver, Cafe White and Iconic Grey.

The new E trim sits below the S trim and reduces the entry price of the Rumion by nearly one lakh rupees.

Basic Cabin With Essential Features

Toyota Rumion E MT Variant Launched

Inside the cabin the Rumion E trim uses a dual tone beige and black interior theme. A silver insert runs across the dashboard and door panels which adds some visual contrast.

Because this is the entry level model some convenience features are missing. The E trim does not get an infotainment system with speakers which means there is no touchscreen entertainment unit in this version. Steering mounted controls are also not available.

The driver misses a centre armrest where as rear passengers do not get seatback pockets or dedicated rear AC vents. Even with these changes the MPV continues to offer a seven seat layout, which remains one of the key strengths of the Rumion.

Features Still Available in the Base Model

Even though it is the base trim Toyota has included several essential features. The Rumion E MT comes with manual air conditioning, projector halogen headlamps and power windows for all four doors.

The steering wheel can be adjusted for tilt which helps drivers find a comfortable driving position. The car also gets central locking and an analogue instrument cluster with a colour multi information display.

Safety Equipment Remains Strong

Toyota has focused on safety even in the base version. The Rumion E MT comes with six airbags as standard which is a strong safety offering for a budget MPV. Other safety features include electronic stability control, hill hold assist and rear parking sensors. The car also gets ABS with EBD which helps improve braking stability.

However some safety related features from higher trims are missing. The base variant does not get a rear parking camera, tyre pressure monitoring system or front fog lamps. A security alarm is also not included.

Engine and Performance

The new Rumion E MT uses the same petrol engine as other variants in the lineup. Under the hood is a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine which produces 103 PS of power and 139 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 5 speed manual gearbox.

The E trim is available only with this petrol manual setup, it does not get an automatic transmission option. There is also no CNG variant available in this trim, which is offered in the S variant.

Rivals in the MPV Segment

The Toyota Rumion competes mainly with the Maruti Ertiga, since both models share the same platform. It can also be considered as an alternative to other three row vehicles such as the Kia Carens, Renault Triber, Nissan Gravite and Maruti XL6 depending on buyer preference and budget.

Why Toyota Introduced the New Base Variant

The addition of the E trim helps Toyota make the Rumion more affordable for buyers who want a spacious seven seat family vehicle at a lower price. By reducing the entry price by Rs 95,000 the company is trying to attract more customers who may otherwise consider the Maruti Ertiga or other budget MPVs.

For buyers who are comfortable with basic features and want a reliable Toyota MPV with essential safety equipment the new Rumion E MT could become a practical option in the segment.
