India has become the world's third-largest car producer, marking a major milestone for the country's automotive industry. In 2025, the country produced 5.4 million passenger cars. This helped India become the third-largest car producer in the world, according to data from OICA. India has moved ahead of Germany and is now only behind China and Japan.
India's car industry has grown rapidly over the past few years. Car production has gone up by 48% compared to 2019. This is the highest growth among the world's top five car-making countries.

While India is growing, many other countries are seeing their car production drop. For example, Japan is still in second place, but its production fell by 14%. Germany dropped by 11%, and the United States saw a huge 49% drop.
