JSW Motors To Launch First Car by Diwali, 15 NEVs Planned for India

JSW Motors' first India model is expected by Diwali, with bookings likely in November 2026.

JSW Motors is expected to begin its passenger vehicle journey with a new energy vehicle (NEV), a term that includes battery-electric vehicles as well as hybrid and other electrified models. The brand is expected to make its debut during the festive season, with bookings likely to open in November 2026. Customer deliveries are expected to begin by the end of 2026 or in early 2027.

What to Expect from the First Car

The first car from JSW Motors is expected to be a premium model, likely priced above Rs. 35 lakh. While the company has not revealed its official name yet, reports suggest it could be a rebranded version of the Chery Jetour T2. Test vehicles believed to be based on the Jetour T2 have already been spotted on Indian roads, indicating that development is at an advanced stage.

The T2 is a lifestyle SUV with a tough and boxy design. It has a tall front, large wheel arches, and a side-opening tailgate. It is quite a big car, measuring 4,785 mm in length with a long 2,800 mm wheelbase.

Power and Battery Tech

JSW Motors is focusing on clean energy. Reports suggest the plug-in hybrid T2 i-DM is the most likely version for India. This system uses a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and a special 3-speed hybrid gearbox.

Key Specs of the Plug-in Hybrid:

  • Battery: It uses a 26.7 kWh battery pack.

  • Drive Layout: The plug-in hybrid version is also expected to use a front-wheel-drive layout.

  • Electric Range: It can travel over 100 km on pure electric power.

  • Total Range: With a full tank and full charge, it can go up to 1,200 km.

  • Fast Charging: You can charge the battery from 30% to 80% in about 30 minutes.

Big Plans for the Future

JSW Motors plans to introduce 15 new energy vehicles in India over the next four years. After the first premium SUV, the company is expected to launch a second car priced between Rs. 18 lakh and Rs. 20 lakh to reach more buyers. Reports also suggest JSW Motors could introduce two to three more models during its first year in the market.

Apart from the Jetour T2, reports suggest JSW Motors is also evaluating models such as the Chery iCar V23 electric SUV, the Jaecoo J5 EV, and the Chery Tiggo 8 SUV for the Indian market. However, the company has not officially confirmed their launch timelines or specifications.

The company plans to launch a new product roughly every three months. Prices are expected to range from around Rs. 10 lakh to over Rs. 30 lakh. All these cars will be built at a new 300-acre factory in Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The plant is expected to have an annual production capacity of 5 lakh vehicles. The company also plans to build a supplier network around the factory to support local parts sourcing and production.

Looking Ahead

JSW Motors' first model is expected to mark the beginning of a much larger product plan for India. With 15 new energy vehicles planned over the next four years, the company is preparing to enter multiple price segments. However, the final specifications, pricing, and launch timeline of the first model will become clear closer to its official debut.

Buyers Should Know the Difference

At first glance, JSW Motors and JSW MG Motor India may look like the same company, but they are different businesses. JSW MG Motor India is a joint venture with SAIC Motor, while JSW Motors is a separate company owned by the JSW Group.

Their partnerships with Chinese companies are also different. JSW Motors is expected to use Chery's vehicle platforms through a technology licensing agreement with royalty payments instead of an ownership partnership. This approach is expected to help the company comply with India's rules on Chinese investments.

If both JSW Motors and JSW MG Motor India introduce Chery-based vehicles in the future, the company will need to clearly position the two brands so buyers understand the difference instead of comparing similar products from the same business group.

JSW has also said that key technologies will be be developed with support from Indian companies such as KPIT Technologies and LTIMindtree. The company is targeting 70% to 75% localisation at launch and plans to increase local content over time, which could also reduce its dependence on imported components.
