Next-Gen Hyundai i20 Teased With New Design, Features and Hybrid Potential
Hyundai Teases Next-Gen i20 With New Platform and Modern Features
Introduction
Hyundai has shared the first teaser of the next-generation i20. The new model has been revealed in Brazil ahead of its global debut. This will be the fourth-generation i20, and it is expected to bring a fresh design, a new platform, and several feature upgrades. The updated hatchback could also be ready for hybrid technology in the future, making it more efficient and better suited to changing market needs.
Cabin Expected to Get a Big Upgrade
The interior of the next-generation i20 is expected to see major improvements. Test vehicles spotted during development have shown a curved display setup. This unit combines the digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen into a single screen.
The hatchback is also expected to receive Hyundai's latest steering wheel design and updated dashboard layout.
Higher variants could come with features such as wireless smartphone connectivity, connected car technology, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and several other convenience features.
New Design with a Sharper Look
The teaser image gives us a small look at the front of the new i20. Hyundai has redesigned the front end and moved away from the large grille seen on the current model.
The new i20 will feature a full-width LED light bar across the front. It will also get Y-shaped LED daytime running lights and new headlamp units with multiple projector elements.
Spy shots from overseas testing reveal a more upright front design. The car appears to have a higher-mounted grille, a larger lower air intake, and redesigned bumper sections.
From the side, the window line has been updated, giving the hatchback a cleaner and more modern appearance. The overall shape looks more mature than the current model while still keeping the sporty character that the i20 is known for.
At the rear, Hyundai is expected to add connected tail lamps linked by a full-width light bar. The rear windshield is also likely to have a more sloping design.
New Platform Underneath
One of the biggest changes in the new i20 will be its new platform. The hatchback is expected to move to Hyundai's latest H-architecture. This new platform is designed to improve safety, increase cabin space, and support future powertrain technologies. It will also give Hyundai more flexibility to introduce hybrid technology in the future.
Engine Options Could Remain Familiar
For India, the next-generation i20 is likely to continue with the current petrol engine options. These may include the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. Hyundai could also introduce a mild-hybrid system to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.
In some international markets, the new i20 is expected to be offered with flexible-fuel engine options as well.
Launch Timeline
The fourth-generation Hyundai i20 is expected to make its global debut next month. The India launch is likely to happen later, possibly with some market-specific changes. With a new design, updated features, and a modern platform, the next-generation i20 aims to stay competitive in the premium hatchback segment.
