Citroën Aircross SUV Gets 5-Star Bharat NCAP Safety Rating in 2025

Citroen’s Aircross SUV gets 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP with good adult and child protection scores announced this week. The rating is applicable to 5-seat versions and covers both 84hp 1.2-litre petrol and 110hp 1.2-litre turbo-petrol variants which are on sale across multiple trims. In adult occupant protection, Aircross scored 27.05 out of 32, 11.05/16 in frontal offset test and 16/16 in side movable deformable barrier test. In child occupant protection, the SUV scored 40 out of 49, full marks in dynamic (24/24) and CRS installation (12/12), while vehicle assessment contributed 4/13. Aircross is ahead of Basalt on adult protection by 0.86 points and 4.1 points on child protection though both carry 4-star child rating. Citroen offers six airbags, ISOFIX, ESC, TPMS and hill-hold assist as standard which supports these results. Current 5-seat pricing starts at Rs 8.32 lakh ex-showroom depending on city and variant availability.

Scores and crash performance

Citroën Aircross SUV Gets 5-Star Bharat NCAP Safety Rating

  • Adult Occupant Protection (AOP): 27.05/32; frontal offset 11.05/16; side impact 16/16; side pole test performance rated as acceptable with marginal to adequate readings on certain body regions.

  • Child Occupant Protection (COP): 40/49; dynamic 24/24; CRS installation 12/12; vehicle assessment 4/13; final COP rating at 4 stars.

How it compares with Citroen Basalt

  • Aircross edges Basalt on adult safety by 0.86 points in AOP (Basalt AOP: 26.19/32) and it leads on COP by around 4.1 points (Basalt COP: 35.90/49) reflecting stronger setup and restraint outcomes in this round of tests.

  • Despite the gap in raw scores, both carry 4-star child rating as per Bharat NCAP rating thresholds.

  • Safety features on Aircross: Six airbags, electronic stability control, ISOFIX child seat mounts, tyre pressure monitoring system and hill-hold assist are standard across the range; six airbags were made standard recently.

These features along with the platform’s structure have contributed to the good side impact scores and consistent dynamic child seat results.

Price and variants in market

  • Aircross 5-seat ex-showroom prices start at Rs 8.32 lakh and vary by trim, transmission and region; 5- and 7-seater are on sale but rating is limited to 5-seater for now.

  • Variants will have differences in comfort and convenience features while safety kit will be standard.

What the rating means for buyers

  • 5-star adult rating and high child score means robust cabin protection, especially in side impacts, with predictable restraint performance in common crash scenarios.

  • For families, ISOFIX, six airbags and ESC as standard means everyday safety, while COP score suggests good compatibility with popular child seats when installed as recommended.

Analysis

The Aircross gets Citroen a stronger safety story in the compact/midsize SUV space where new launches are battling it out on crash scores and standard safety features. The full marks in side impact and high dynamic child scores show the structure and restraints have been tuned well for lateral crashes which are the ones that matter in real world city driving. The gap over the Basalt on AOP and COP suggests some incremental improvements in calibration or test configuration even though both have same component set. For buyers, the rating applies to the 5-seater versions so 7-seater buyers should wait for further testing or manufacturer guidance. With 6 airbags now standard and pricing starting at Rs 8.3 lakh, the Aircross could be a good bet for families who prioritise safety value. As Bharat NCAP publishes more results, this score should keep the Aircross in the shortlist along with other strong performers in the segment.
