Harley-Davidson X440 Detailed Review, Price and Specs in India
Harley-Davidson X440 review: a real Harley look at mid-segment price
The Harley-Davidson X440 brings Harley styling and a usable 440 cc engine to a lower price band. Harley and Hero designed the bike together. Hero manufactures the X440 and sells it through Harley showrooms and 20 Hero outlets. The bike aims to give more riders a chance to own a Harley without paying top end prices.
The X440 uses a new 440 cc single cylinder four stroke engine with two valves and air plus oil cooling. This fuel injected engine produces 27 PS at 6000 rpm and 38 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. The strong midrange torque gives instant pickup in city traffic and calm progress on open roads. The top speed reaches around 135 kmph in real use.
The gearbox is a six speed manual unit, it uses an open chain final drive. The side stand includes an engine cut off sensor but the bike does not get a center stand. You should clean and lubricate the chain about every 500 km to keep it healthy. The bike includes rider and pillion footpegs and a foldable pillion peg on the right and left sides.
The X440 uses 43 mm upside down KYB front forks. These USD forks add stability and more precise handling while riding. The rear suspension uses twin shock absorbers with seven step preload adjustment. You can tune the rear shocks to match load and road conditions. The chassis feels solid for a cruiser and the suspension suits both city work and longer rides.
Braking uses dual discs with dual channel ABS. The front gets a 320 mm disc with a twin piston caliper and the rear uses a 240 mm disc with a single piston caliper. The bike lets you switch the rear ABS on and off if you prefer. The braking setup gives confident stopping power on wet and dry roads.
Only the top variant gets diamond cut alloy wheels while the base variant uses spoke wheels with tube tyres. On the top model the wheel sizes are 18 inch front and 17 inch rear. The front tyre size is 100/90-18 and the rear is 140/70-17. The bike runs on MRF Zapper high tubeless tyres on the top variant which improve grip and feel.
The X440 draws styling cues from the Harley XR1200. The front uses a round LED headlight with a DRL and a compact plastic panel between the headlight and speedometer. The console on the top variant is a 3.5 inch TFT display with Bluetooth, navigation and USB charging. The base and mid variants do not get Bluetooth. The instrument cluster shows rpm, speed, gear position, fuel gauge, trip meters, real time mileage, range and service reminders.
The fuel tank uses metal construction and a matte black finish on many parts. The top variant adds a 3D Harley-Davidson X440 badge and orange graphic lines. The bike supports E20 fuel. The build uses mostly metal panels and a matte black treatment that looks premium for the price.
The single long seat is comfortable for rider and pillion. The grab rails feel strong and the pillion seat offers reasonable comfort for short and medium rides. The bike includes a saree guard and metal parts around the rear to protect the bike and passenger.
The X440 weighs about 190.5 kg and seat height is 805 mm and ground clearance is 170 mm. Wheelbase measures 1418 mm and the fuel tank holds 13.5 liters. Harley claims mileage in the 30 to 35 kmpl range in normal riding. These figures suit daily riding and occasional touring.
The X440 comes in three variants - The base Denim variant is priced at ₹2,39,500 ex-showroom. The mid Vivid variant is ₹2,59,500 ex-showroom and offers more color options. The top S variant costs ₹2,79,500 ex-showroom and adds alloy wheels, the TFT display and Bluetooth features. These prices place the X440 against models such as the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Jawa 42, Honda CB350 and the Hero Maverick 440.
Buyers will choose the X440 for the Harley badge, the cruiser style and the practical midrange performance. The top variant offers the best value if you want features and connectivity. The base variant keeps costs lower while still delivering the Harley look and core riding feel. If you want pure retro charm or the highest performance, you may prefer other models in this segment. If brand presence, modern features and a usable 440 cc motor matter to you, the X440 makes strong sense.
In short, the Harley-Davidson X440 gives a real Harley feel at near mid-segment prices. The bike delivers good torque, stable handling thanks to USD forks, and a solid metal build. The top S variant adds tech that makes long rides easier. The trade offs include the need for regular chain care and fewer features on lower variants. For riders who want Harley styling and usable everyday performance, the X440 deserves a test ride.
