4 New Midsize ICE SUVs Coming Soon from Mahindra, Tata, Renault, and Nissan
The midsize ICE SUV segment in India is set for major activity, with four new models confirmed for launch over the next three to four months. Mahindra, Tata Motors, Renault and Nissan are preparing new SUVs to strengthen their presence in this high-demand category.
1. Mahindra XUV700 Facelift
Mahindra is expected to introduce the updated XUV700 in early 2026. The facelift will focus on revised exterior styling and a completely redesigned cabin. The interior will feature a fresh dashboard layout, a new centre console and a premium three-screen setup for a more modern look. Mahindra will continue with the existing powertrain lineup, which includes the 2.2-litre diesel engine and the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired with both manual and automatic transmissions.
2. Nissan Tekton
Nissan is preparing to re-enter the midsize SUV market with the Tekton, which is scheduled to launch in the first half of 2026. The SUV will share its platform with the upcoming Renault Duster but will stand apart with a Patrol-inspired design and a more upright stance. This model is likely to be Nissan’s most important launch in India in several years and will play a major role in rebuilding the brand’s portfolio.
3. New Renault Duster
Renault is bringing back the Duster with an all-new model that is set to launch on January 26, 2026. The new Duster will be built on the highly localized CMF-B architecture and will feature modern equipment and updated technology. Renault is expected to offer two petrol engine options with manual and automatic gearbox choices. This model marks the return of one of the most recognizable SUVs in the Indian market.
4. New Tata Sierra ICE
Tata Motors will launch the new-generation Sierra ICE on November 25. The SUV carries a design that pays tribute to the original Sierra while offering a feature-rich cabin. Powertrain options will include a new 1.5-litre petrol engine available in naturally aspirated and turbocharged versions, with the turbo variant producing 168 PS and 280 Nm of torque. Tata will also offer the familiar 1.5-litre diesel engine with manual and automatic transmissions. The Sierra’s equipment list includes triple displays, a four-spoke steering wheel, Level 2 ADAS and a panoramic sunroof. Its long wheelbase is expected to offer strong practicality for families.
Editor's Note
The arrival of these four midsize SUVs signals a competitive phase for the segment. The Mahindra XUV700 facelift aims to maintain its advantage with a premium interior and upgraded technology. The Renault Duster and Nissan Tekton will bring two strong contenders built on the same CMF-B platform, adding both capability and global credibility. Nissan’s rugged design direction for the Tekton may help it appeal to buyers who want a tougher-looking SUV. The Tata Sierra ICE will draw attention through its mix of nostalgia, powerful 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and features such as Level 2 ADAS. With all four brands targeting different strengths, existing players will be pushed to speed up their updates. This benefits buyers by bringing more choices, better engines and the latest features to the midsize SUV market.
