MG Majestor vs Toyota Fortuner vs MG Gloster: Which Big SUV Wins?

MG Majestor vs Toyota Fortuner vs MG Gloster: A Detailed SUV Comparison

The Indian SUV market is seeing new competition, especially in the large, tough vehicle segment. MG Motor India recently unveiled its new flagship, the Majestor, which aims to challenge established players. This new SUV sits alongside MG’s existing Gloster and directly targets the long-standing segment leader, the Toyota Fortuner. Let us look closely at how these three powerful SUVs compare in terms of size, features, performance, and off-road ability.

Size and Road Presence: Who Stands Tallest?

The MG Majestor makes a strong statement with its size. It measures 5,046 mm in length, making it the longest among the three. It is also the widest at 2,016 mm and the tallest at 1,876 mm. The Majestor will come in both 6-seat and 7-seat options. Its wheelbase, shared with the Gloster, is 2,950 mm, which is longer than the Fortuner’s 2,745 mm. The Majestor’s bold design, with a large grille, sharp LED lights, and big 19-inch alloy wheels, gives it a very commanding look on the road. The MG Gloster is also a large SUV, while the Toyota Fortuner, though known for its tough looks, is smaller in all dimensions compared to the two MG SUVs.

Engine Power: Diesel Dominance

All three SUVs offer strong diesel engine options. The MG Majestor uses a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine. This engine produces 215.5 PS of power and 478.5 Nm of torque. It pairs with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The MG Gloster shares this same engine option, along with a less powerful 2.0-litre turbo diesel that makes 161 PS and 373.5 Nm. The Toyota Fortuner offers a 2.8-litre diesel engine with a mild-hybrid system, which delivers 204 PS of power and 500 Nm of torque. It also has a 2.7-litre petrol engine option. The Fortuner provides choices of 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, and 6-speed automatic transmissions. While the Fortuner has slightly more torque, the Majestor offers more horsepower and a smooth automatic transmission.

Off-Road Capability: Built for Adventure

When it comes to tackling tough terrains, the MG Majestor comes well-equipped. It features a special ‘M-Hub’ command center for its 4x4 system, offering 10 off-road modes like Snow, Rock, Sand, and Mud. A standout feature is its triple differential lock system (front, rear, and center), which helps maintain traction on very uneven surfaces. The Majestor also boasts an impressive 810 mm water wading capacity. The MG Gloster includes a BorgWarner 4x4 system with 7 terrain modes and an Electro-mechanical Differential Lock (EDL). The Toyota Fortuner is famous for its rugged body-on-frame construction and 4x4 system, which includes an electronic differential lock, active traction control, and auto limited-slip differential. On paper, the Majestor’s advanced hardware gives it an edge in extreme off-road situations.

Interior and Features: Luxury Meets Technology

The MG Majestor sets a high standard for interior luxury and technology. It offers a premium cabin experience with a large panoramic sunroof and front seats that provide both ventilation and massage functions. The SUV includes a 12-speaker JBL sound system, 64-color ambient lighting, a 12-way powered driver’s seat with memory, and three-zone automatic climate control. It also features a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a full digital driver display, a column gear shifter, and dual wireless charging. The MG Gloster also provides a premium feel with a 12.28-inch HD touchscreen and a panoramic sunroof. The Toyota Fortuner, while practical, offers fewer advanced features. It has an 8-inch touchscreen, wired Apple CarPlay, and lacks a sunroof or advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) found in the MG models.

Pricing and Position

MG has not yet announced the official price for the Majestor, but experts expect it to start around Rs 40 lakh. Pre-bookings are currently open for Rs 41,000, with the launch set for April 2026. The MG Gloster ranges from Rs 38.33 lakh to Rs 41.07 lakh. The Toyota Fortuner has a wider price range, starting from Rs 34.16 lakh for petrol variants and going up to Rs 49.59 lakh for diesel models. The Majestor aims to offer more features and size for its expected price, making it a strong value proposition against the Fortuner, especially in its higher-end diesel variants.

Gaadi Journal's Analysis

The MG Majestor’s entry into the market marks an important development in India’s full-size SUV segment. The Toyota Fortuner continues to be known for strong reliability and high resale value. However, the Majestor focuses on offering more space, newer technology and stronger off-road equipment.

MG’s approach is straightforward. The company is targeting buyers who want modern features, premium interiors and advanced safety systems at a competitive price. With Level 2 ADAS, triple differential locks and a feature-rich cabin, the Majestor offers equipment that goes beyond what is currently available in many rivals.

This increased competition is likely to push other manufacturers to upgrade their products as well. For buyers, this means more technology, better safety and improved overall value in the large SUV category. The Majestor reflects a broader shift toward bigger, more capable and more technology-focused SUVs in India.
