Toyota Land Cruiser FJ Debuts in Thailand Priced At Rs 36.4 Lakh
Toyota unveils Land Cruiser FJ in Thailand with 4WD, ladder frame and 2.7L engine. India launch expected soon.
Toyota has officially unveiled the new Land Cruiser FJ in Thailand at the 47th Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS) 2026. The SUV was first teased in October last year and will go on sale in Thailand by the end of this month. It will be offered in a single 4WD 2.7 variant, with prices starting at 1.269 million Baht (around Rs. 36.40 lakh).
Bold Exterior and Interior Comforts
The Land Cruiser FJ features a boxy and upright design inspired by the older FJ Cruiser. At the front, it gets a bold Toyota logo across the grille, along with C-shaped LED daytime running lights. Round retro-style lamps are available as an option. From the side, the stepped glasshouse and thick C-pillar give it a rugged stance, while the rear gets an octagonal side-hinged tailgate with an externally mounted spare wheel.
Inside, the SUV offers a 7-inch color instrument display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features include a six-speaker sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control with PM2.5 filtration, black synthetic leather seats, an eight-way power-adjustable driver seat, a four-way manual passenger seat, and three USB Type-C ports.
The cargo area also includes military-style MOLLE mounting panels, allowing users to securely attach accessories or outdoor gear, making it more practical for adventure use.
Built for Toughness: Traditional SUV Design
Unlike many modern compact SUVs that use car-like platforms, the Land Cruiser FJ follows a more traditional approach with Toyota’s IMV0 ladder-frame architecture. This means it uses a strong body-on-frame setup similar to a truck, which also allows it to be taxed as a truck-based SUV in Thailand. This construction makes it highly capable for off-road use.
Powerful Engine and Off-Road Capability
The Thailand-spec model is powered by the 2TR-FE 2.7-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine. This four-cylinder unit produces 166 PS at 5,200 rpm and 245 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, similar to the Fortuner. It is paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox that also offers a sequential shift function.
What sets the Land Cruiser FJ apart is its off-road hardware. It comes with a part-time four-wheel-drive system and a low-range transfer case, using control hardware borrowed from the Hilux for better off-road performance.
Future in India
Toyota is expected to bring the Land Cruiser FJ to India in just over a couple of years. It could find a strong position in the market, as very few SUVs offer a compact size along with a ladder-frame chassis and true low-range 4WD capability.
