The upcoming Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is set to become an interesting SUV for the Indian market, as it aims to offer a true off-road experience. Positioned as a smaller model than the Toyota Fortuner, the LC FJ could help Toyota enter the off-road lifestyle segment.

Toyota plans to build the Land Cruiser FJ on a proven and strong platform. It uses the IMV ladder-frame chassis, which is the same tough foundation found in the Toyota Hilux and Fortuner. This type of construction is known for its durability and ability to handle rough conditions, which suits the FJ’s role as a 4x4 vehicle.

Compact Size for Better Handling

The Land Cruiser FJ is smaller than many other Land Cruiser models, measuring about 4.5 meters long and featuring a 2,580 mm wheelbase. This size makes it easier to drive in city traffic as well as on challenging off-road paths, while a smaller turning radius is especially helpful on narrow trails.

Global Launch and India's Potential

The SUV was first shown globally at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 and is expected to launch in Japan in the second half of 2026. While Toyota has not confirmed its India launch, the brand’s strategy and the growing demand for adventure vehicles in the country make its arrival likely within the next few years.

The FJ’s design helps it stand out, featuring a boxy and upright shape with clean lines and round headlights inspired by the classic Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. Practical elements like body cladding and modular exterior parts further highlight its purpose-built off-road design.

The Land Cruiser FJ will likely use a 2.7-liter petrol engine, expected to produce around 163 PS and 246 Nm of torque. It will be paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox, sending power to all four wheels through a part-time 4WD system. Other engine options, such as a diesel, might also be added based on market needs.
