Hero-Harley Planning Multiple New Motorcycle Launches, Sprint To Arrive First
Harley-Davidson and Hero MotoCorp are expected to introduce new motorcycles later this year
The partnership between Harley-Davidson and Hero MotoCorp is set to expand further. The two brands are planning to launch more motorcycles in India. Under this partnership, more motorcycles are expected to be produced in India for the Indian market as well as for export.
Harley-Davidson will continue to benefit from Hero MotoCorp's manufacturing plants and distribution network in India to increase the production of entry-level and cruiser motorcycles.
Coming Products:
The next product expected from this partnership is the upcoming Harley-Davidson Sprint. The motorcycle is likely to be unveiled in the coming months in the current financial year. Post the Sprint, the two brands are expected to unveil more motorcycles at different price points in the premium segment. Some of these motorcycles could also be exported to international markets from India.
Earlier this year, Hero MotoCorp CEO Harshavardhan Chitale confirmed that multiple jointly developed Harley-Davidson motorcycles are planned for launch this year.
Manufacturing Highlights:
Earlier this year, Harley-Davidson announced its "Back to Bricks" strategy, under which the company plans to introduce 20 new motorcycles and variants globally over the next three years.
- Neemrana Plant: Hero MotoCorp's Neemrana plant in Rajasthan is expected to play a key part in the manufacture of larger capacity Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
- Global Exports: Local manufacturing in India is expected to make it possible for Harley-Davidson to cut down costs and enter global markets.
Success of 440cc Range
So far, the partnership has resulted in the success of some products, including Harley-Davidson X440 and Hero Mavrick 440. The Harley-Davidson X440 was the first motorcycle jointly developed by Harley-Davidson and Hero MotoCorp under their partnership. These motorcycles share the same platform but are sold under different brands. More recently, the Harley-Davidson X440T has also joined the family.
These motorcycles have helped Hero MotoCorp strengthen its position in the 350cc to 500cc segment. In the previous year, the company managed to sell 14,375 motorcycles in this segment and gain an 11% market share, making it third after Royal Enfield and Bajaj Auto in the segment.
Growth in Dedicated Sales Network
In order to sell more of its premium motorcycles, Hero MotoCorp is growing its exclusive sales outlets in India. At present, the company operates over 130 premium stores across the country, with more outlets expected in the coming years.
These stores deal exclusively in Harley-Davidson motorcycles as well as Hero premium motorcycles.
Why Is the Partnership Important?
Harley-Davidson's global sales have come under pressure in recent years. Between 2019 and 2025, the sales of the company globally dropped by approximately 40%.
Through collaboration with Hero MotoCorp, Harley-Davidson would be able to launch more affordable motorcycles to reach a larger customer base. This strategy could help Harley-Davidson attract more customers beyond its high-end motorcycle range.
