Mahindra Vision S-Based 'Baby Scorpio N' SUV Expected To Launch In 2027
Mahindra Working on New Vision S-Based 'Baby Scorpio N SUV Positioned Below Scorpio N and Above XUV 3XO
Mahindra & Mahindra is currently developing a new compact SUV that will be positioned below the Scorpio N and above the XUV 3XO. This product is expected to arrive sometime after 2027 and will be based on the "Vision S" concept. Mahindra hopes this new SUV will offer the same tough styling and strong road presence as the Scorpio N. However, the new compact SUV is expected to be noticeably smaller.
Design & Styling
Most compact SUVs on the market feature rounded designs, but Mahindra appears to be taking a different approach. The new model is expected to have a boxy shape with muscular wheel arches and a spare wheel mounted on the tailgate. It will also feature an upright greenhouse, a design element usually associated with larger SUVs. Mahindra is expected to use this boxy styling as one of the SUV's key highlights.
New Technology & Platform
The new SUV is expected to be among the first models built on Mahindra's new "NU_IQ" architecture. It is worth noting that this is a monocoque platform, meaning the body and chassis are integrated into a single structure. This type of platform generally helps improve space, comfort and driving dynamics.
The NU_IQ platform is also expected to support different body styles and powertrain options in the future. Though smaller than the Scorpio N, the new SUV is expected to offer a spacious cabin. There should be enough room for passengers and their luggage.
Higher variants of the SUV could come equipped with premium features such as:
- Large touchscreen infotainment system
- Panoramic sunroof
- Cruise control
- Level 2 ADAS safety technology
Engine & Performance
Mahindra is expected to continue with familiar engines already used in some of its existing models. Buyers could get two engine choices:
- Petrol: 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine
- Diesel: 1.5-litre diesel engine
Several transmission options are also expected to be available, including manual and automatic gearboxes.
| Feature | Expected Details |
|---|---|
| Platform | NU_IQ Monocoque Architecture |
| Expected Launch Year | Around 2027 |
| Expected Starting Price | Below Rs. 10 Lakh |
| Engine Options | 1.2L Turbo Petrol / 1.5L Diesel |
| Design Style | Boxy Design with Rear-Mounted Spare Wheel |
Pricing & Market Competition
One of the key highlights of the upcoming SUV could be its aggressive pricing. Mahindra is expected to target budget-conscious buyers, and the starting price could remain below Rs. 10 lakh. This could make it an attractive option for buyers looking to purchase their first SUV or upgrade from a hatchback or sedan.
Though it is expected to compete with future products such as the Renault Bridger, Kia Syros and Hyundai Bayon, Mahindra will likely rely on its distinctive design, diesel engine option and rugged SUV character to stand out from rivals.
