New-Generation Toyota Hilux Coming To India: Specs, Features, and Design
Toyota is launching the updated Hilux in India with a new design, a premium interior, and a 2.8L diesel engine
After successfully launching the eighth-generation Hilux in India, Toyota is set to unveil the ninth-generation Hilux in the country soon. This latest model will be better-looking and will feature an upgraded interior. However, India is unlikely to get the fully electric Toyota Hilux that has been introduced in some international markets. Instead, the new model is expected to arrive with an updated diesel engine.
Engine and Performance
Powering the new Hilux is a 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine that delivers 204 PS of power and 500 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Buyers will have the option of choosing either a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) or four-wheel-drive (4WD) configuration depending on their requirements.
It has also introduced a 48V mild-hybrid version of this engine in several global markets. The same technology could be offered in India as well, helping improve fuel efficiency and overall driving performance.
The pickup continues to use Toyota's durable IMV platform, known for its strength and reliability. It can carry loads of up to 1,000 kg and has a towing capacity of 3,500 kg.
Fresh and Tough Exterior Design
Upcoming Hilux gets a much bolder appearance than the current model sold in India. At the front, it features a larger grille, sleek LED headlamps, and a black trim piece connecting the lights with prominent Toyota branding.
The pickup also has a raised bonnet, strong body lines, and protective cladding around the wheel arches, giving it a rugged and modern look. Toyota has worked on improving the vehicle's driving dynamics and off-road capability, making it more capable on rough terrain.
It measures 5,320 mm in length and 1,885 mm in width. It offers a ground clearance of 225 mm and can handle water crossings up to 700 mm deep, making it suitable for challenging road conditions.
More Premium Cabin Experience
The biggest changes can be found inside the cabin, offers a much more modern and premium interior compared to the outgoing model. It features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster along with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The upgraded cabin is designed to provide better comfort and convenience for both daily use and long journeys.
Key Features
Some of the major features expected in the new Toyota Hilux include:
- Wireless smartphone connectivity
- 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system
- 12.3-inch digital driver display
- Panoramic camera system
- Connected car technology
- Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
- Multiple safety and convenience features
Expected Launch in India
With its updated styling, stronger feature list, and improved cabin quality, the new-generation Toyota Hilux could attract a wider range of buyers in India. More details regarding the India launch, variants, and pricing are expected to be announced closer to the official debut.
