Kia Carnival Hybrid India Launch This Year: Engine & Features

Kia Carnival petrol hybrid is coming to India this year. Learn about its 1.6L turbo engine, 242 hp, and advanced features

The Kia Carnival received a major price increase in India when the fourth-generation model arrived in late 2024. The price nearly doubled compared to the previous generation, but the new model also brought a more premium cabin, improved build quality, and a longer list of features. At present, Kia sells the Carnival in India as a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) unit. It is offered only in the fully loaded Limousine trim, priced at around Rs. 59.50 lakh (ex-showroom).

India-Specific Hybrid Powertrain Details

Internationally, the Carnival is offered with two petrol engines, one diesel engine, and a petrol-hybrid option. For India, the upcoming version will use a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol-hybrid system. This setup produces a combined output of 242 hp and 367 Nm of torque.

The system uses a 54 kW electric motor that works as part of a full parallel hybrid system. Power is delivered through a six-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid model will also feature a three-level regenerative braking system.

Current Powertrain and Upcoming Petrol Variant

The current Carnival is powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine. This engine produces 193 PS of power and 441 Nm of peak torque. Kia is now planning to expand the Carnival lineup by introducing a petrol-powered variant. This petrol version is already available in global markets and is expected to come with a more aggressive price compared to the diesel model sold today.

Fuel Economy and Trim Levels

Global specifications indicate that the hybrid Carnival can deliver fuel efficiency of up to 14.5 kmpl. While international markets offer the hybrid in multiple trims, the Indian market may receive a single fully loaded variant.

Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems

In international markets, the Carnival is equipped with a comprehensive Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) package. These features include autonomous emergency braking with junction detection, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keeping assistance, highway driving assist, parking collision avoidance, and a surround-view monitoring system.

These technologies make the hybrid Carnival one of the most feature-packed MPVs in its segment.

Expected Features and Technology

The exterior is expected to include 19-inch alloy wheels with a gloss black finish, along with Dark Edition styling elements, LED projector headlamps, and LED tail lamps. The MPV is also likely to feature dual sunroofs.

The dashboard will feature twin 12.3-inch panoramic displays with navigation and connected services, along with an 11-inch head-up display. Other highlights include a Bose premium sound system and an in-cabin camera with an intercom function.
