Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara Launched at Rs 10.99 Lakh With BaaS Plan
Maruti Suzuki launches the e-Vitara electric SUV at Rs 10.99 lakh with BaaS. Learn about battery options, 543 km range, and pay-per-km costs.
Maruti Suzuki officially announced the prices for its first electric SUV, the e-Vitara, in India. The vehicle starts at an introductory price of Rs 10.99 lakh. This price applies under a new "Battery-as-a-Service" (BaaS) model. This price positions the e-Vitara competitively against rivals like the Hyundai Creta EV and Tata Curvv EV.
Under the BaaS model, buyers pay a lower upfront cost for the car. However, they must pay a separate fee of Rs 3.99 for every kilometer they drive. This system aims to make electric SUVs more affordable for a wider range of customers.
Variants and Battery Options
The e-Vitara uses the dedicated Heartect-e skateboard architecture. It measures 4,275 mm in length and has a generous 2,700 mm wheelbase. The SUV provides a ground clearance of 185 mm and a boot space of 310 liters. The e-Vitara comes in three main variants: Delta, Zeta, and Alpha. Maruti Suzuki offers two battery pack choices for these models. The Delta variant uses a 49 kWh battery. The higher Zeta and Alpha trims come with a larger 61 kWh battery pack.
The SUV provides a claimed range of up to 543 km on a single charge. For performance, the larger battery supports a dual-motor setup with all-wheel drive. Maruti Suzuki has also prepared a wide charging network, with 2,000 charging points already live across 1,100 cities.
Ownership and Charging Ecosystem
The company plans to establish around one lakh charging stations by 2030. It has partnered with 13 different charging operators to ensure buyers can find a plug easily.
In addition to the BaaS model, Maruti Suzuki offers other ownership options. These include subscription plans and an assured buyback program. These programs provide flexibility for people who are new to electric vehicles and may have concerns about long-term value.
Safety and Build Quality
The SUV features a modern design with eleven color options, including monotone and dual-tone finishes like Nexa Blue and Land Breeze Green. It sits on 18-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels and features matrix LED lighting at the front and rear.
Safety is a major highlight for the e-Vitara. The vehicle has already earned a five-star rating from Bharat NCAP. It scored 31.49 out of 32 for adult protection and 43 out of 49 for child safety. Standard safety equipment includes seven airbags, electronic stability control, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
The SUV was developed through a global collaboration between Suzuki and Toyota. Maruti Suzuki builds the e-Vitara in India for both the domestic market and for export to 28 other countries.
Expert Analysis and Comment
The starting price of Rs 10.99 lakh for the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara is a strong entry for the Indian EV market. By using the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, Maruti Suzuki has brought the entry price of a mid-size electric SUV down to the level of many petrol cars. This removes the "price barrier" that often prevents people from switching to electric power.
The pay-per-kilometer fee of Rs 3.99 is an interesting approach. For low-mileage drivers, this could be very cost-effective. However, high-mileage users will need to calculate if the monthly battery fees outweigh the savings on fuel. This model shifts the cost of the battery from a large upfront payment to an ongoing operating expense, similar to buying petrol.
Maruti’s focus on the charging ecosystem is also impressive. With 2,000 chargers ready on day one and a goal of one lakh by 2030, the company is directly tackling "range anxiety." The collaboration with Toyota ensures that the technology is reliable and globally tested. For the Indian consumer, the e-Vitara represents a practical, safe, and affordable way to enter the world of electric mobility with a brand they already trust.
