New Maruti Suzuki Brezza Spotted With 6-Speed MT and Bigger Screen
Maruti Suzuki is testing the 2026 Brezza facelift with a new 6-speed manual gearbox and a larger 10.1-inch screen
Maruti Suzuki is preparing to give its popular compact SUV, the Brezza, a fresh update. Recent spy shots of a test vehicle in India reveal some changes that will likely make the SUV more modern and practical. While the current Brezza is already a top seller, this mid-cycle refresh aims to keep it ahead of the competition.
A New 6-Speed Manual Gearbox
One of the biggest mechanical changes spotted is a new six-speed manual transmission. Currently, the Brezza uses a five-speed manual gearbox. Moving to a six-speed unit will help the 1.5-litre petrol engine perform better on highways, offering a more relaxed drive and better fuel efficiency. This is a new move for a Maruti petrol car, and it shows the brand is listening to drivers who want more control and refinement.
The 1.5-litre K15C engine will likely stay the same, producing around 102 bhp and 137 Nm of torque. For those who prefer automatics, the existing six-speed automatic gearbox will also continue to be an option.
Bigger Screen and Better Tech
Inside the cabin, the most visible upgrade is a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This new unit replaces the current 9-inch screen and will likely feature the latest software. Drivers can expect sharper graphics, a more responsive interface, and easy wireless connectivity for smartphones.
The test vehicle also suggests other premium features might be on the way. These could include ventilated front seats and front parking sensors, adding more convenience for city driving. The Brezza already offers a head-up display and a 360-degree camera, and these updates will further strengthen its position as a feature-rich SUV.
Solving the CNG Boot Space Problem
Perhaps the most practical update is the rumored underfloor CNG tank. In the current Brezza CNG, the large cylinder takes up most of the boot space, which is a drawback for families. Maruti Suzuki appears to be testing a new layout where the CNG tanks sit under the floor. This would free up the luggage area, making the CNG version just as useful as the petrol one for long trips.
Fresh Exterior Tweaks
While the overall shape of the Brezza remains the same, the facelift will bring some cosmetic changes. Spy shots show newly designed alloy wheels and a cleaner look for the body cladding. We might also see minor updates to the front grille and bumpers to give the SUV a sharper appearance.
Expected Launch and Pricing
The updated Maruti Suzuki Brezza is expected to debut later in 2026. Prices might see a slight increase due to the new features and transmission, but it should remain fair, starting around Rs. 8.90 lakh (ex-showroom). With these updates, Maruti Suzuki is clearly focusing on technology and practicality to maintain its lead in the sub-four-metre SUV segment.
Analysis: Why the 6-Speed Gearbox Imp
Adding a sixth gear is a added value for Maruti Suzuki. Most compact SUVs in India now offer six-speed transmissions, by giving the Brezza a 6-speed manual, Maruti is making its engine more versatile. It allows for shorter gear ratios in the city for better pick-up and a taller sixth gear for quiet, fuel-efficient highway cruising. This change alone could attract buyers who were previously looking at more powerful rivals for long-distance travel. It shows that the brand is focusing on real-world driving needs rather than just adding fancy gadgets.
Editor's Comment: Practicality Meets Technology
The 2026 Brezza facelift shows that Maruti Suzuki is focusing on the right areas. While a bigger screen is a nice addition, the underfloor CNG tank is a genuine need for many Indian buyers. If Maruti can successfully move the CNG tanks without losing ground clearance, they will likely see a rise in CNG sales. Combined with the new 6-speed gearbox, the Brezza is evolving from a reliable city commuter into a much more capable all-rounder. It is a well-thought-out update that addresses current owner feedback.
