Top 10 7-Seater Vehicles in January 2026: Ertiga Leads, Bolero and XUV 7XO Show Strength

India’s 7-seater vehicle market remained active in January 2026, with combined sales of the top models crossing 81,000 units. The data shows that demand is still largely driven by affordability, fuel efficiency and regional usage patterns rather than only premium features. Family buyers, fleet operators and rural customers continue to shape this segment in different ways.

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga remained the highest-selling 7-seater with 17,892 units in January 2026, marking a 26 percent increase over 14,248 units in January 2025. Its strong position is supported by CNG variants, low running costs and wide service reach. A large share of Ertiga sales also comes from fleet and commercial registrations, which helps maintain high volumes even during slower retail cycles.

Mahindra Scorpio secured second place with 15,542 units, almost unchanged from 15,442 units last year. Stable sales suggest consistent demand, especially in semi-urban and rural areas where diesel engines, higher ground clearance and ladder-frame construction remain important purchase factors. The Mahindra Bolero followed with 11,841 units, up 36 percent year-on-year. Bolero demand continues to be strong in smaller towns and institutional use, where durability and ease of maintenance matter more than advanced features.

The Mahindra XUV 7XO recorded 10,133 units, adding an urban-focused option within Mahindra’s three-row portfolio. By offering both rugged utility models and feature-rich urban SUVs, Mahindra now covers multiple buyer groups within the 7-seater category.

Toyota’s Innova range, including the Crysta and Hycross, posted 9,455 units, slightly lower than last year. Hybrid variants in the Hycross lineup continue to attract city buyers looking for better fuel efficiency. The Kia Carens registered 5,633 units, showing stable demand in the lower MPV-SUV crossover space.

Further down the list, the Maruti Suzuki XL6 recorded 3,820 units, reflecting a 13 percent decline. The Toyota Fortuner sold 3,046 units, slightly below last year’s level, indicating steady but mature demand in the premium ladder-frame category. The Renault Triber showed strong growth of 72 percent, reaching 2,509 units. Growth at this level often reflects improved supply and strong interest from budget-conscious buyers who need seven seats under a lower price bracket. The Tata Safari recorded 2,375 units, up 53 percent year-on-year. The addition of a petrol variant appears to have widened its appeal in urban markets where some buyers prefer petrol over diesel.

Overall, the January figures suggest that the 7-seater segment is not driven by a single trend. Affordable MPVs continue to lead in volume, ladder-frame SUVs maintain strength in rural and semi-urban regions, and petrol and hybrid options are gradually expanding in metro cities. Running cost, resale value and service network remain key decision factors in this category. While premium models hold stable demand, high volumes still come from practical and cost-efficient offerings.
