Ducati Desmo450 MX Could Arrive in India Soon With 449cc Engine 64 BHP Power

Ducati has started teasing the Desmo450 MX, which is its first dirt racing motorcycle. The teaser appeared on Ducati’s social media pages which hints that the bike could arrive in India in the near future. Some early reports say the launch may happen around March 2026. Models like its superbikes dominate racetracks and highways, whereas motocross machines belong to a different kind of riding where the focus stays on light weight quick response and strong suspension.
India does not have many motocross options in the official market. Riders who love off-road usually depend on imported machines or very limited models. Because of that the arrival of a Ducati motocross bike would be a big moment for the small but growing dirt riding community.
A Racing Engine With Ducati’s Unique System
The Desmo450 MX runs on a 449.6cc single-cylinder engine which Ducati built for motocross racing conditions. The motor produces about 64 BHP at 9,400 rpm and 53.5 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm. These numbers place it among the stronger machines in the 450 motocross category.
Where the bike becomes interesting is its Desmodromic valve system. Ducati uses this system in many of its superbikes where engines spin at very high rpm. Instead of relying on valve springs the mechanism uses precise mechanical control which helps maintain accurate timing.
That design can be useful in motocross as well because engines face constant stress where riders accelerate hard jump frequently and push the motor across rough terrain.
The bike also comes with a 5-speed gearbox which includes a quickshifter. This allows faster gear changes where riders can keep momentum during aggressive riding on dirt tracks.
Suspension and Chassis Built for Rough Tracks
Motocross bikes must deal with rough landings deep ruts and uneven surfaces. Ducati built the Desmo450 MX around a twin-spar aluminium frame which is both strong and lightweight. This structure helps the bike remain stable while still giving the flexibility needed during racing.
At the front the bike uses 49 mm Showa forks which provide 310 mm travel. At the rear there is a progressive monoshock which offers 301 mm travel. Long suspension travel allows the bike to absorb heavy impacts where riders land after jumps or pass through rough sections of a track.
Wheel sizes follow the typical motocross format where the front wheel measures 21 inches and the rear wheel measures 19 inches. Ducati fits these wheels with Pirelli Scorpion MX32 tyres which are designed for dirt sand and loose soil conditions. For braking the motorcycle uses Brembo components. The front wheel gets a 260 mm disc whereas the rear uses a 240 mm disc.
Developed Through Racing
Ducati did not start this project only as a production bike. The Desmo450 MX comes from the company’s racing program which took part in the 2024 Italian Motocross Championship.
Engineers tested the machine on real motocross tracks where they refined the chassis balance engine tuning and durability. Because of that the final production version is expected to remain very close to the race machine.
Expected Price and Buyers
If Ducati launches the Desmo450 MX in India the expected price could be around ₹12 lakh to ₹13 lakh ex-showroom. This may look high for a 450cc motorcycle, yet motocross machines operate in a different category where the focus stays on racing hardware rather than daily usability. The bike will likely attract professional racers off-road enthusiasts and collectors who want a rare high-performance machine.

Off-road riding in India has slowly grown over the last decade. More adventure riders are exploring trails where dedicated motocross tracks and training schools are also appearing in several regions. As this culture expands global brands begin to see potential in the market.
