Top Electric Car Brands in India – February 2026 Sales Breakdown
India Electric Car Sales February 2026: Brand-Wise Detailed Market Performance
Electric cars are no longer something people only talk about in the future, they are slowly becoming a normal sight on Indian roads. The sales numbers from February 2026 show how quickly this shift is happening. During the month about 13,669 electric passenger cars were sold across the country which is a huge jump compared with 9,479 units sold in February last year. In simple terms the market grew by roughly 44% in one year.
This rise is happening because buyers now have more choices than before and many people are beginning to understand that an electric car can work well for daily city travel where running cost is lower and driving is quieter.
Tata Motors Stays Clearly Ahead
Tata Motors once again finished the month as the biggest electric car seller in India. The company delivered 5,558 EVs in February 2026 whereas it had sold 4,002 units in the same month last year. Much of this demand comes from models like the Nexon EV and Punch EV which have become familiar names in the Indian EV market. Many buyers feel comfortable choosing Tata’s electric cars because the brand entered the segment early and built a strong service network around its EV lineup.
MG Holds Second Place While Mahindra Surges
MG Motor India remained the second largest EV seller with 3,310 units. The number is slightly lower than last year but the brand still contributes a large share of the market mainly because of models like the Windsor EV.
One of the biggest changes this year came from Mahindra. The company sold 2,913 electric vehicles, which is a massive jump from 508 units last year. New models such as the XEV 9e, XEV 9s and BE 6 are clearly helping Mahindra gain attention among buyers who want fresh electric options.
New Brands Begin to Appear
The EV space is also seeing new companies step into the market. VinFast, which recently entered India, recorded 384 sales with its VF6 and VF7 models. BYD India sold 306 units, showing steady progress in the premium EV space.
Some brands had mixed results. Hyundai sold 304 EVs, which is lower than last year’s numbers, while Kia saw a noticeable rise with 295 units sold compared with only a few dozen the year before.
Luxury brands also added smaller numbers to the market where BMW sold 245 electric cars, Mercedes-Benz delivered 65 units and Volvo sold 25 units. A few high-end deliveries also came from Porsche and Rolls-Royce, showing that interest in electric vehicles exists even at the luxury level.
