Mahindra BE.07 Electric SUV Spotted Testing in India Ahead Of 2027 Launch
Mahindra’s BE.07 electric SUV has been spotted testing. The new EV will sit above BE 6 and rival Tata Harrier EV when it launches in 2027.
Mahindra is preparing its next born-electric SUV which is expected to arrive in 2027. The upcoming model is based on the BE.07 concept that the company first showed in 2023. Now the first camouflaged prototypes have been spotted testing on Indian roads which gives us an early idea of how the production version may look. This new SUV carries the internal code name B07. It will become the second vehicle in Mahindra’s BE electric sub-brand and the fourth born-electric model from the company. The lineup already includes the BE 6 along with the XEV 9e and XEV 9S electric SUVs.
Larger Electric SUV With a More Upright Design
The upcoming BE.07 will be positioned above the BE 6 in size and stance. Early details suggest the SUV will measure around 4,565 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,660 mm in height. The wheelbase is expected to be 2,775 mm, which is similar to the BE 6 and XEV 9e.
Even though it shares the wheelbase with those models, the body will look larger because of its more traditional SUV shape. The BE.07 is expected to have a taller and more upright stance which gives it stronger road presence.
Spy images show a silhouette that reminds many people of a Range Rover style design. The SUV has a flat roofline and a thick rear pillar which creates a strong profile. The front and rear windscreens appear sharply raked which adds a sporty touch to the otherwise upright design.
Spy Shots Reveal Key Exterior Details
The test vehicle seen on the road is heavily camouflaged. Still a few design details can be noticed. The prototype appears to have LED headlamps along with vertically stacked LED daytime running lights. The front bumper shows air inlets which are likely used for cooling. The bumper also seems to follow a stepped design which was earlier seen on the concept version.
Large aero-optimised wheels are visible under the camouflage. These wheels sit inside slightly flared wheel arches which give the SUV a wider look.
The test car also features flush-fitting door handles which helps improve aerodynamics and is already seen on other Mahindra electric models. The side profile shows blacked-out B-pillars which create a floating roof effect.
Another interesting change from the concept is the use of traditional wing mirrors. The concept model used cameras instead of mirrors which may not have been practical for production.
Expected Interior With Triple Screen Layout
Spy images have not clearly shown the interior yet. However the cabin is expected to follow the layout seen in Mahindra’s latest electric vehicles.
The BE.07 could feature a triple screen dashboard which stretches across the width of the cabin. This layout is already present in the XEV 9e and XEV 9S which means Mahindra may carry the same idea into this SUV.
Other expected features include new seats along with a redesigned centre console. The SUV may also get a panoramic sunroof and a head-up display which projects important driving information onto the windshield.
Mahindra has been focusing on digital interiors in its electric vehicles. Because of this the BE.07 is likely to offer a modern cabin filled with connected features and advanced driver information systems.
INGLO Platform and Battery Options
The BE.07 will be built on Mahindra’s INGLO platform which is a dedicated electric vehicle architecture. This platform already underpins the BE 6 and the XEV series of SUVs.
Using the same platform allows Mahindra to share battery technology and electric powertrain components across multiple models.
Although the company has not confirmed the final specifications yet, the BE.07 is expected to use 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery packs. These are the same battery options currently offered in Mahindra’s existing born-electric vehicles.
The platform supports both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive layouts. Because of this the production version of the BE.07 may come with different performance options.
Five-Seater SUV With Focus on Volume Sales
Even though the BE.07 is larger than the BE 6, it is expected to remain a five-seater SUV. The focus is on making it a practical electric family vehicle rather than a niche product. Mahindra executives have already hinted that the BE.07 could become an important volume model for the brand.
During a recent quarterly earnings call, Mahindra’s executive director and CEO Rajesh Jejurikar said the company believes the BE.07 could become a major volume driver on top of the three electric vehicles already planned.
Expected Rivals in the Electric SUV Segment
This SUV is expected to compete directly with upcoming models such as the Tata Harrier EV and the VinFast VF7. Both of these vehicles are positioned in the mid-size electric SUV category which is likely to see strong interest from buyers moving away from petrol and diesel vehicles. Mahindra may also choose a different production name when the final model is launched. The BE.07 name currently represents the concept and development stage of the vehicle.
Mahindra Expands Its Born-Electric Lineup
The BE 6 was the first model in this new electric family. It was followed by the XEV 9e and the XEV 9S which expanded Mahindra’s EV portfolio further.
The upcoming BE.07 will become the next major step in this plan. With its larger size and SUV styling it is expected to attract buyers who want a spacious electric vehicle with modern design and technology. Although the launch is still some time away, the appearance of early test prototypes shows that development is already moving ahead.
As testing continues over the next few years, more details about the final design, performance and features of the Mahindra BE.07 electric SUV are expected to emerge.
