Mercedes-Benz V-Class Luxury MPV Launched in India at Rs 1.40 Crore
Mercedes-Benz V-Class Returns to India at Rs 1.40 Crore With Petrol and Diesel Options
Mercedes-Benz has brought back the V-Class luxury MPV to India with a starting price of Rs 1.40 crore ex showroom. The updated model will be assembled locally at the company’s Chakan plant near Pune which is where several Mercedes vehicles for the Indian market are built. Bookings for the V-Class have already started and deliveries are expected to begin toward the end of March.
The V-Class is designed mainly for buyers who want a large and comfortable vehicle for long journeys. Many owners prefer to be chauffeur driven in this type of vehicle which means the focus is strongly on rear seat comfort and cabin space rather than sporty driving.
A Large Luxury MPV Built Around Passenger Comfort
The V-Class is one of the largest passenger vehicles Mercedes sells in India. The long wheelbase of 3,430 mm creates a very spacious cabin which means passengers in the rear rows get plenty of legroom. The overall design of the vehicle highlights space and practicality where as the tall roof also helps create a more open and airy feeling inside the cabin.
Inside the V-Class buyers can choose between two interior themes which include a full black cabin or a dual tone black and beige combination. The materials used throughout the cabin feel premium where as leather upholstery, soft touch panels and wood trim add to the luxury atmosphere.
Flexible Seating Layout Makes the Cabin Versatile
The V-Class is offered with a six seat layout which includes individual captain seats in the second and third rows. These seats can be arranged in different ways depending on how the owner wants to use the vehicle.
Passengers can keep the seats facing forward in a traditional layout or rotate the middle row seats so that they face the rear row which creates a conference style arrangement. The third row can also be removed when extra luggage space is needed which means the cabin can be adjusted for different travel situations.
Rear passengers get several comfort features such as heating, ventilation and massage functions. These features are designed to make long journeys more relaxing especially for buyers who use the vehicle with a driver.
Exterior Design Keeps the Classic MPV Shape
The latest V-Class receives a refreshed front design which includes a larger grille with the Mercedes star placed at the centre. Multi beam LED headlights with daytime running lights add a modern look to the front section.
From the side the design stays clean and upright which is typical for a luxury MPV. This shape allows the cabin to remain spacious while also giving the vehicle a strong road presence. Dual tone 18 inch alloy wheels are offered where as the rear doors slide open electrically which makes it easier for passengers to enter and exit the vehicle in tight parking spaces.
At the back the V-Class keeps a simple design with vertical LED tail lamps and a large tailgate. The rear glass section can also be opened separately which allows quick access to the luggage area when needed.
Exterior Colour Options
Mercedes-Benz offers the V-Class in five exterior colour choices which give buyers a mix of classic and modern shades. These colours highlight the large body design of the MPV while also matching its luxury positioning.
Buyers can choose from Sodalite Blue, Obsidian Black, Rock Crystal White, High-tech Silver and Alpine Grey. Dark shades such as Obsidian Black give the vehicle a formal appearance where as colours like High-tech Silver and Rock Crystal White emphasise the clean design lines of the body.
Technology and Cabin Features
The dashboard uses a simple layout with two large 12.3 inch digital displays placed side by side. One screen functions as the instrument cluster where as the other operates the infotainment system. The system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with built in navigation and voice commands through the “Hey Mercedes” assistant.
Passengers also get a 15 speaker Burmester sound system which provides a rich audio experience inside the cabin. Wireless phone charging, multiple USB C ports and connected car functions are also included.
Ambient lighting with 64 colour options allows occupants to adjust the cabin mood according to their preference. Powered sliding doors, automatic climate control and rear sunshades further add to passenger comfort.
Safety and Driver Assistance Systems
Mercedes has equipped the V-Class with several safety features to protect passengers. The vehicle includes seven airbags along with electronic stability control and tyre pressure monitoring.
Driver assistance systems such as blind spot monitoring and lane keeping assist help improve safety during long drives. A 360 degree camera system makes parking easier where as the driver monitoring camera checks eye movement and warns the driver if signs of fatigue are detected. The V-Class also holds a five star safety rating from Euro NCAP crash tests.
Petrol and Diesel Engine Options
The V-Class is offered with both petrol and diesel engines in India. The petrol version uses a 2 litre turbocharged engine supported by a mild hybrid system which produces 231 PS of power along with additional electric assistance.
The diesel version also uses a 2 litre engine which produces 237 PS and delivers strong torque of 500 Nm. Both engines are paired with a nine speed automatic transmission which helps deliver smooth performance for highway travel.
Rivals in the Luxury MPV Segment
The V-Class competes in a small luxury MPV segment in India where buyers look for maximum comfort and space. Its main rivals include the Toyota Vellfire and the Lexus LM which also focus on premium interiors and rear seat comfort.
With the updated V-Class Mercedes-Benz is targeting customers who want a spacious luxury vehicle that can serve as a comfortable lounge on wheels for long distance travel.
For Buyers
This type of vehicle is usually chosen by customers who travel with a driver and want more rear seat space than what most luxury SUVs offer. One of the main strengths of the V-Class is its long 3,430 mm wheelbase. This allows Mercedes to create a cabin that focuses heavily on second and third row comfort. Individual captain seats, flexible seating layouts and features like ventilation and massage functions are aimed at passengers rather than the driver.
Price positioning also matters here. At around Rs 1.40 crore ex showroom, the V-Class sits between other luxury MPVs available in India. The Toyota Vellfire is known for its hybrid powertrain and soft ride quality, while the Lexus LM focuses more on ultra-luxury rear seat features. The V-Class offers a different mix by combining strong cabin space with Mercedes design and technology.
Local assembly at the Chakan plant could also help Mercedes maintain supply and manage costs. For buyers looking for a large chauffeur driven vehicle with flexible seating and modern tech, the V-Class provides another option in a segment that still has limited choices.
