Hero Xoom 125 Scooter Patented In India: Adventure Variant Coming?

Hero MotoCorp's latest patent reveals a rugged Xoom 125 design inspired by the Adventure Concept

Hero MotoCorp has filed a design patent for a rugged-looking scooter in India. The patent closely matches the Xoom 125 Adventure Concept shown earlier, featuring several adventure-inspired styling elements around the front, handlebar, and lower body. This suggests Hero could be preparing a more adventure-focused version of the Xoom 125.

Design Changes

At front, it gets a tall shield above the handlebar, wide guards for the rider's hands, and a raised, beak-like front fender. You can also see places for extra lights near the front, mounted low near the main body. Protective crash bars are fitted around the lower front bodywork. These additions give the scooter a much tougher, adventure-ready appearance than the standard Xoom 125.

Looking at the side, the scooter has a long, single seat, a high back section, and body panels that are layered. The scooter also gets a wide, flat floorboard. The back of the scooter has a small tail light and a sleek handle for a passenger. The way the exhaust pipe is placed, the rear suspension, and the engine cover suggest that this new model is still based on the standard petrol scooter.

Wheels, Brakes, and Engine Details

The patent images also show alloy wheels, a disc brake at the front, and telescopic forks at the front. It has a drum brake setup at the back. The front tyre appears wider in the patent drawings, although the exact specifications cannot be confirmed. The Xoom 125 that is already sold has 14-inch wheels. The Adventure Concept also had 14-inch wheels with tires that work well on different types of roads.

Hero had shown the Xoom 125 Adventure Concept at a big event called EICMA 2024 in Milan. They also showed a bigger Xoom 160 Adventure Concept there. The concept scooter had a style inspired by the Dakar Rally, with red and white colors, a taller shield, race-style fenders, hand guards, crash protection, fog lamps, lights that bend around corners, and different riding modes. If Hero uses the same mechanicals, the scooter is likely to be powered by the existing 124.6 cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine paired with a CVT transmission. It produces 9.92 PS of power at 7,250 rpm and 10.4 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. Hero says it can go 52.8 km on one liter of fuel, and its fuel tank holds 5 liters.

What This Patent Could Mean for Buyers

While the patent does not confirm a launch timeline, it keeps the possibility of an adventure-themed Xoom 125 alive. If Hero decides to bring it to production, it could arrive as an Adventure Edition, a special edition, or a factory accessory package.

The current Xoom 125 comes with features like an LED projector headlamp, turn signals that light up one after another, a digital speedometer, Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, an outside fuel lid, and wide tyres. It is offered in VX and ZX variants and competes with the TVS NTorq 125, Suzuki Avenis, Honda Dio 125, Yamaha RayZR 125, and Aprilia SR 125. None of these rivals currently offers a true adventure-style scooter in this engine size.

Hero Could Open a New Space in the Scooter Market

Today, most adventure-style scooters in India sit in the bigger 160cc-plus segment. Models like the Yamaha Aerox 155 and Hero Xoom 160 target buyers looking for more performance, while the Honda ADV160 is also expected to arrive by late 2026 or early 2027. These scooters are priced from around Rs 1.40 lakh onwards.

As per patent hints, instead of building another premium adventure scooter, Hero could bring the same rugged styling to the more affordable 125cc segment. The standard Xoom 125 is currently priced between Rs 82,000 and Rs 97,000, so even with extra parts like crash bars, hand guards, a taller windscreen, and additional lighting, an adventure version could still cost much less than the larger 160cc models.

If Hero takes this design into production, it would not only become the most affordable adventure-style scooter in India but could also create a new category of its own. It may attract buyers who like the rugged look but do not want to spend around Rs 1.40 lakh or more on a maxi-style scooter. Whether there is enough demand for such a product remains to be seen, as no company has yet launched an adventure-style scooter in this price range.
