New Hyundai Bayon-Based SUV Spied Testing in India: What to Expect

Hyundai's upcoming compact SUV has been spotted testing in India again. This SUV is based on the Hyundai Bayon, which is a popular model sold in Europe, but the India-spec version is expected to get several changes. It is likely to arrive during the 2026 festive season.

Where Does it Fit?

Internally, this new SUV is known by the code name "BC4i." It is expected to sit right between the Venue and the Creta in Hyundai’s lineup and will likely be between 4.1 and 4.2 metres long. Hyundai is targeting buyers who want more space and road presence than the Venue without paying the higher price of a Creta.

New Design

Even though the test car was covered in camouflage, we can still see some interesting design details. The front of the SUV has slim LED daytime running lights mounted high up, with the main headlights positioned vertically below them. It has a high bonnet and an upright stance, giving it a true SUV look.

It is also features roof rails and a crossover-style profile. Large parts of the front and rear bumpers are still covered, which suggests Hyundai is still finalizing the production design. One interesting thing is that it has a longer rear section compared to some other compact SUVs. The alloy wheels seen on the test vehicle could also make it to the production version. The rear lights and the shape of the tailgate also look different from the current Hyundai SUVs we see in India today.

Temporary lighting units can also be seen at the rear, while the final bumper design remains hidden under camouflage.

Engine and Gearbox Options

The new SUV will likely use engines that are already popular in other Hyundai cars:

  • 1.2-Litre Petrol: This is the entry-level engine that produces about 83 hp and 114 Nm of torque.

  • 1.0-Litre Turbo Petrol: This is a more powerful engine that produces 120 hp and 172 Nm of torque.

For the gearbox, you will likely have many choices, including a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed iMT (clutchless manual), and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Packed with Modern Features

Hyundai is known for putting lots of technology in its cars, and the BC4i will be no different. Some of the features we expect to see include:

  • Large Screens: A big touchscreen for music and a fully digital display for the driver.

  • Comfort: A sunroof, wireless phone charging, and connected car technology.

  • Safety: A 360-degree camera, six airbags, and smart safety features (ADAS) to help keep you safe on the road.
