Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Bioflex is now on sale for fleet operators with a flex-fuel engine, manual gearbox and added upgrades

A new version of the Wagon R that runs on high-ethanol fuel has arrived in India, called the Wagon R Bioflex. Maruti Suzuki is currently offering this model only to businesses and commercial operators. It is priced at Rs. 7.24 lakh (ex-showroom), making it more expensive than the regular petrol versions due to the additional engineering required.

Unlike the standard Wagon R lineup, which is available in multiple variants for private buyers, the Bioflex is currently offered exclusively in the range-topping ZXi+ trim.

Familiar Look with New Badges

On the outside, the Bioflex looks almost the same as the standard Wagon R. It keeps the tall shape and upright stance that people know. You can only spot the difference by looking at the special Bioflex badges and graphics on the body.

It is based on the top-spec ZXi+ variant so, you will get many premium features inside. The cabin has a dual-tone finish and fabric seats and also comes with a multifunction steering wheel for added convenience. You will also find a 7-inch touchscreen that works with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. For safety, the car has six airbags and electronic stability control. Other useful features include rear parking sensors, fog lamps, rear AC vents, and a four-speaker sound system.

Major Engineering Changes

While the car looks the same, the engine has many new parts. It uses the 1.2-litre K-Series naturally aspirated four-cylinder motor. Engineers had to change the fuel injectors, the fuel pump, and the fuel lines to handle ethanol.

The car also has a special ethanol sensor which checks the fuel all the time and tells the car's computer how to run the engine. Power is sent to the wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox. While the standard engine produces 91 hp and 114 Nm of torque, the exact power for the Bioflex version has not been shared yet.

Comparing the Costs

The Bioflex costs Rs. 86,000 more than the regular ZXi+ manual model. For reference, the Wagon R ZXi+ 1.2 MT is priced at Rs. 6.38 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Bioflex carries a sticker price of Rs. 7.24 lakh (ex-showroom). If you compare it to the Wagon R Tour H3, which is also for commercial use, the Bioflex is about Rs. 2.2 lakh more expensive. This shows how much work went into making the car safe for ethanol-blended fuel.
