MG Starlight 560 7-Seater Plug-In Hybrid SUV Spotted At Charging Station

MG Starlight 560 spotted during testing in Jaipur. Upcoming 7-seater electric SUV may launch in India later this year.

It looks like JSW MG Motor India has entered the final stages of testing its upcoming electric SUV, the Starlight 560. Recently spotted in Jaipur, Rajasthan, the test vehicle was seen charging at a public fast charger located inside a mall parking lot. Such a sighting suggests that testing is progressing as planned and the launch could be just around the corner.

Interestingly, the test vehicle was parked next to a Tata Nexon.ev, which helped give a better idea of its overall dimensions. Even under heavy camouflage, the SUV appeared larger than the Tata electric crossover. As far as its India-spec version is concerned, reports suggest it could be offered with a seven-seat configuration, competing against the Mahindra XEV 9S.

While the test vehicle was fully covered in camouflage, the design of the upcoming SUV is already known because it is sold in international markets as the Wuling Starlight 560. This means the Indian version is expected to remain largely unchanged apart from MG badging.

The front of the SUV features a large blacked-out grille, LED headlamps, and LED DRLs positioned around the main headlight units. A prominent skid plate on the front bumper further adds to its rugged look.

On the sides, there are squared wheel arches, body cladding, roof rails, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The test vehicle was also seen with camouflaged five-spoke alloy wheels.

At the rear, the upright tailgate gives it a slight MPV-like appearance. There is also a roof-mounted spoiler, LED tail lamps, and several premium design elements that contribute to its upscale look.

Dimension Measurement
Length 4,745 mm
Width 1,850 mm
Height 1,755 mm
Wheelbase 2,810 mm

The upcoming SUV is expected to be larger than its Mahindra rival and could offer a more spacious cabin with three rows of seating for family buyers.

Inside, the cabin follows a modern and minimalist design theme similar to the MG Windsor EV. The dashboard features a dual-screen setup, including a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an 8.8-inch fully digital instrument cluster.

There is a stylish two-spoke steering wheel, while the centre console has a clean and uncluttered layout. Most vehicle functions are controlled through the touchscreen infotainment system.

Here are some of the expected features:
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Premium leatherette upholstery
  • Connected car technology
  • Automatic climate control
  • Ambient lighting
  • USB charging ports
  • Over-the-air software updates
  • Six-speaker audio system
Globally, the SUV is offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine, an electric motor, and a 20.5 kWh battery pack.

This setup produces between 194 bhp and 197 bhp, while torque output stands at 230 Nm. The SUV can travel up to 100 km in pure electric mode under the CLTC test cycle. Combined with a 52-litre fuel tank, the total driving range is claimed to be around 1,100 km.

The fully electric version uses a 56.7 kWh battery pack paired with an electric motor producing between 134 bhp and 136 bhp, along with 200 Nm of torque.

Under real-world driving conditions, the electric SUV is expected to deliver a range of around 450 km to 500 km on a full charge.

The continued testing of the SUV suggests that its launch could take place soon. Industry reports indicate that the new model may arrive in India before the end of this year, possibly around the festive season.
