Norton Atlas and Atlas GT Specs Revealed: 585cc Engine And 69 bhp
Norton Reveals Full Specs For New Atlas and Atlas GT Adventure Bikes - Explained In detailed
Norton Motorcycles, the British brand owned by TVS, has finally shared all the technical details for its new Atlas and Atlas GT adventure bikes. These bikes were designed in England but will be built right here in India at the TVS factory in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. They will be sold through a new premium dealership network called "Paddock."
Powerful New Engine
Both the Atlas and Atlas GT use the same 585cc liquid-cooled engine and it can produce 69 bhp of power and 57.5 Nm of torque. It is also gets a special APS coating on the cylinder surface, along with a 78 mm bore, a 61.2 mm stroke, and a 270-degree crankshaft. The engine is designed to be smooth and powerful for both road and off-road riding.
Modern Design and Styling
These are the first bikes to show off Norton’s new, modern design style. The look was created by Simon Skinner with help from Professor Gerry McGovern, Norton’s Chief Creative Advisor. Both motorcycles are built around a lightweight steel trellis chassis.
Even though they look similar, there are some big differences between the two:
- Norton Atlas: This is built more for adventure. It has a longer wheelbase, more ground clearance, and a higher seat height of 845mm. It uses 19-inch front and 17-inch rear aluminum wheels.
- Norton Atlas GT: This is more for the road. It has a shorter suspension and a lower seat height of 815mm. It uses 17-inch wheels at both the front and rear.
Packed with High-Tech Features
Norton has put a lot of modern technology into these bikes to keep riders safe and comfortable. Some of the top features include:
- Smart Safety: Lean-sensitive ABS, cornering traction control, cornering cruise control, and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
- Easy Riding: A quick-shifter for changing gears without the clutch, a slipper clutch, electronic combined braking, and hill-hold assist.
- Advanced Controls: Five different riding modes, wheelie control, and slide control.
- Digital Display and Connectivity: A large 8-inch digital display that shows navigation and connects to your phone through the Norton Rider app.
- Extra Comfort: You can even get heated grips as an optional extra.
The motorcycles also use a lightweight aluminium swingarm.
Suspension and Weight
Both bikes are quite light for their size. The Atlas weighs 188 kg, and the Atlas GT weighs 192 kg (without fuel). They both come with high-quality 43mm front forks that you can fully adjust. The Atlas has 180mm of travel for rougher roads, while the Atlas GT has 140mm for a smoother road feel. The rear also uses a fully adjustable KYB monoshock.
Braking and Practicality
The front braking system uses dual floating 310 mm discs with radial-mounted calipers for strong stopping performance. Norton has also made the bikes very practical by building grab handles and luggage mounts directly into the frame. This makes it much easier to carry bags for long trips.
