2027 Kawasaki KLX230 Launched At Rs 2.19 Lakh, Gets Rs 35,000 Price Hike

2027 MY27 KLX230 Launched by Kawasaki: Price Hike, but No Changes to the Bike

Kawasaki India has introduced the new MY27 KLX230 dual-sport motorcycle in the Indian market priced at Rs 2.19 lakh (ex-showroom). However, compared to the previous MY26 model, the price has increased by Rs 35,000. Interestingly, apart from the price hike, no mechanical changes have been made to the bike. The bike is currently available in a standard variant and comes in two color options: Lime Green and Battle Gray.

The company has also introduced the KLX230 S variant at the same price point. This version features reduced suspension travel, resulting in a seat height that is 50 mm lower than the standard model, making it more comfortable for shorter riders.

What is the design like?

The KLX230 features elements suited for off-road riding, such as slim bodywork, a compact LED headlamp, a narrow fuel tank, a high-mounted front mudguard, and a flat seat. It is designed based on Kawasaki's KX-style trail bike aesthetic, characterized by minimal body panels and a high riding position.

Engine and Performance

The bike retains the same 233cc air-cooled, fuel-injected, four-stroke, single-cylinder engine as its predecessor. This SOHC, two-valve engine produces 19 PS of power at 7,800 rpm and 19 Nm of torque at 6,200 rpm and mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

Suspension and Braking

The KLX230 uses a tubular semi-double cradle frame. It features a 37mm telescopic fork at the front and a Uni-Trak rear swingarm suspension setup at the rear. The suspension provides 220 mm of front wheel travel and 223 mm of rear wheel travel, while ground clearance stands at 255 mm.

For braking, it is equipped with a 290mm front disc with a dual-piston caliper and a 230mm rear disc with a single-piston caliper. Additionally, riders can switch off the ABS using a control on the left handlebar, offering better control on loose surfaces or off-road tracks.

Wheels and Dimensions

The new KLX230 features a 21-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear wheel. Other key dimensions are as follows:

  • Length: 2,110 mm

  • Width: 830 mm

  • Height: 1,160 mm

  • Wheelbase: 1,370 mm

  • Seat height: 880 mm

  • Fuel tank capacity: 7.5 liters

  • Kerb weight: 139 kg

Should you buy it?

Apart from a price hike in the MY27 update, there are no changes to the engine, chassis, suspension, braking system, or color options. Therefore, if MY26 stock is currently available at showrooms, purchasing it offers an opportunity to save a significant amount of money.

The KLX230 was initially launched in India at a price of Rs 3.30 lakh. Subsequently, the price was reduced to Rs 1.99 lakh and later to Rs 1.84 lakh. Now, the price of the new MY27 version stands at Rs 2.19 lakh.

According to the company, deliveries of the MY27 KLX230 are likely to commence around September. The Hero XPulse 210 and KTM 250 Adventure remain among its closest rivals in the Indian market. The KLX230 R S variant, specifically designed for off-roading, is also available in this lineup.

Gaadi Journal's Analysis

Now Kawasaki's pricing for the KLX230 has changed more than most bikes in India. It was first launched at around Rs 3.30 lakh in late 2024. After local assembly started, the price dropped sharply to below Rs 2 lakh, making the bike more affordable for buyers interested in this niche segment. Now, with the MY27 update, the price has gone up by Rs 35,000. Kawasaki has not explained the reason for this price increase, and the company has not made any technical changes that justify the higher price.

At Rs 2.19 lakh, the KLX230 is now priced much closer to the KTM 250 Adventure, although it still produces less power. However, the Kawasaki is lighter and is better suited for off-road riding and technical trails. The price increase also brings it closer to the Hero XPulse 210, which has a bigger dealer and service network across India. If MY26 stock is still available, it could be the better buy because the engine, chassis, suspension, and overall equipment remain the same as the new MY27 model.
