BYD eMAX 7 Comfort launches in India with a 71.8 kWh battery and 485 km MIDC range

BYD India has expanded the eMAX 7 electric MPV lineup with a new Comfort variant. Positioned below the existing Superior trim, the new variant brings the larger 71.8 kWh battery pack at a more competitive price. The announcement also comes alongside a price revision for select BYD EV models in India.

Bigger Battery for the New Comfort Trim

The new eMAX 7 Comfort variant now uses a larger 71.8 kWh battery pack, the same unit found in the MPV's higher-spec variants. With this pack, BYD claims a MIDC-certified range of up to 485 km on a single charge.

Power comes from an electric motor that produces 161 bhp and 310 Nm of torque. The battery pack also supports DC fast charging at up to 115 kW, helping reduce charging time when needed.

Pricing and Seating Options

BYD is offering the new eMAX 7 Comfort variant in both six-seat and seven-seat configurations. The six-seat version carries a price tag of Rs 27.90 lakh (ex-showroom), while the seven-seat version is priced slightly higher at Rs 28.30 lakh (ex-showroom).

Features Inside the Cabin

Inside, the eMAX 7 comes with synthetic leather upholstery and a 5-inch TFT instrument cluster. A 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The MPV also includes power-adjustable ORVMs, LED lighting, keyless entry, automatic climate control, and dynamic rear turn indicators.

Safety Equipment and Underpinnings

On the safety side, BYD includes six airbags as standard equipment, along with TPMS, ABS, ESC, and traction control. A 360-degree camera system and an electronic parking brake with auto hold are also part of the package.

Underneath, the eMAX 7 uses a McPherson strut suspension at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear, paired with ventilated front disc brakes and alloy wheels. The MPV uses a front-wheel-drive layout and offers 170 mm of ground clearance.

Price Revisions Across the Range

Alongside the launch of the Comfort variant, BYD has also revised prices for select models sold in India. According to the company, these changes range between Rs 50,000 and Rs 1 lakh, depending on the model.

The Bigger Question Is What the Superior Variant Adds

The new Comfort variant raises an obvious question: what does the Superior variant offer for an extra Rs 2 lakh? Both use the same 71.8 kWh battery pack and produce the same 161 bhp and 310 Nm. Yet the Comfort starts at Rs 27.90 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Superior is priced at Rs 29.90 lakh (ex-showroom).

That makes the decision less about battery size and more about features. Buyers considering the Superior should compare its additional equipment with the Comfort before spending the extra money. For those whose priority is a larger battery and longer driving range, the Comfort could prove to be the better value in the lineup.

The claimed range figures also need a little context. The Comfort's 485 km figure is certified under the MIDC test cycle, while the Superior's 530 km claim is based on the older NEDC standard. Since the two variants use different testing cycles, those numbers should not be compared directly even though they share the same battery pack.

BYD has also confirmed a price revision for select models in India. Anyone planning to book the eMAX 7 should check the latest ex-showroom and on-road prices with their nearest dealership, as the final price may vary depending on the model and location.
